School Canopy adds Shade at Holymead Primary School (Junior Site) in Brislington

There were some preschool children at Holymead Primary School (Junior Site) in Brislington near Bristol, who wanted some shelter in their school playground and we were only too happy to help. Holymead Primary School approached A&S Landscape to discuss what options were available and we looked through our range of products.

We can install a wide range of school canopies, whether you would like fabric or polycarbonate roofing, school colours or multi colours! A&S Landscape has been working with schools to help them add shade and shelter for more than 40 years, this means we are confident that we can work with you, in or out of term time, to install just the right product for your school.

Holymead Primary School chose a curved roof steel and polycarbonate Duo canopy from our Motiva range. It measured 6000mm x 6000mm and included post protectors. The steel was Green (RAL 6005) and the roofing opal polycarbonate.

The children are delighted with their new school canopy. It has created a large space that they can use throughout the year. Some days they may use it at break times, other days they may have lessons or activities under it. Where once the sun or indeed rain may have stopped play, the children can now enjoy some fresh air regardless of the weather. What a relief.

How to keep your school playground safe and why this is so crucial

Playground areas and any outdoor play equipment is a brilliant way to offer your students a healthy option to get a break from the classroom. Pupils getting exercise while spending time with their friends is something that schools should absolutely encourage, but it’s also really important that the fun isn’t ruined by a child getting harmed while using the playground.

Playgrounds can become hazardous for a wide range of various factors. Unsafe behaviour is by all means something that teachers and students alike should be on the lookout for. But alongside protecting children from the elements, uneven and improper surfaces can also cause falls – and unsafe or unsound outdoor equipment can instantly turn the fun sour.

It’s supposed that in the UK alone, around 40,000 children are hurt by playground accidents. Copious amounts of these even end up in the hospital or A&E, making it essential that schools do everything they can to apply proper playground safety. UK schools across the country face difficulties with making their playgrounds as safe as possible – fortunately, a lot of these accidents can be prevented with vigilant supervision.
