Lime Tree Primary School in Merstham, based in beautiful Surrey, required a durable canopy cover that would provide protection from the elements for staff and pupils when moving between classes using external entrances. This institution, which works hard to give children the best school lives possible, needed a model with great coverage that could also adjoin their existing building. They worked with A&S Landscape to find the right product for them.
After much deliberation, they picked the Motiva Linear™ as the shelter they wanted to add to their school facilities. They liked the effortless design of their chosen Slate Grey steelwork and Opal polycarbonate roofing, and thought it would offer brilliant protection from all sorts of weather – including sun and rain. The area they needed to cover was over 40 metres long but, as the Motiva Linear™ is available in virtually any dimensions, it was no trouble to supply them with a model that suited their requirements. This straight roof canopy variant was the perfect choice for a covered walkway, as it has been used for many such applications before.
Everyone was happy with the sleek look of their new custom canopy, and now pupils can move between lessons and classrooms without worrying about the weather. It could also be used as a playground shelter, so children get a little more time outdoors when they would otherwise have been having rainy break times! Want to know more about school shelters? Danes Hill School in Oxshott wanted to install a canopy to provide their pupils with year-round opportunities for outdoor learning and play. The staff – who ‘guide children so that they become independent and confident individuals’ – felt that the design was particularly important and wanted it to be striking and colourful, as well as large enough to accommodate many children enjoying being outside. A&S Landscape had some fantastic ideas to make this a reality.
A 30500mm X 4000mm Motiva Mono™ was installed at Danes Hill School – custom specifications which A&S Landscape was happy to supply by adapting their product so it could be enjoyed by even more pupils at once. This particular model is a popular choice for play area canopies, and it has a stylish asymmetric roof that works well next to existing buildings. It is also ideal to cover outdoor learning spaces, and the multicoloured steelwork and Opal roof made for a bright design that would inspire everyone at the school.
The play and learning canopy was a hit with Danes Hill School. The colourful design matched a Motiva Duo™ that A&S Landscape had previously installed and the two shelters have improved the institution’s outdoor facilities. Pupils can now use the space as an outdoor classroom gazebo, or a playground canopy to encourage exercise and socialising outside, whether it’s sunny or rainy. If you’re thinking about purchasing a shelter of your own, call us on 01743 444100 now.
A&S Landscape installed a Maxima Tepee™ with waterproof fabric at 9800mm x 8000mm. The genius of the installation was the addition of walls in PVC with windows, meaning that they created another outdoor classroom. Steelwork was installed in Dark Green (RAL 6026) and the fabric roof was a bright Yellow (RAL 1003). A super addition to the playground that is well used all year round.
The new tepee area means that everyone at Furzefield Primary School can benefit from shade on hot summer days and protection from the elements on chillier days of the year. A Maxima Tepee™ structure was installed on the school campus, measuring a total of 10000mm x 10000mm. The material used on the Ivory coloured roof is made with a PVC waterproof fabric, so the canopy can be used in all weather conditions. The Opal Green steelwork contrasts with the neutral roof to create a striking effect. Queen Eleanor’s C of E Junior School also chose to include post protector pads to complete the canopy.
The pupils can now sit outside during their break times without having to worry about the weather. The tepee has become a very popular addition to the school, as it provides an additional social and study space, as well as an outdoor classroom. The pupils can also enjoy some fresh air during the school day, helping them to refresh ahead of their next lessons at Queen Eleanor’s C of E Junior School.

Our Motiva range of canopies come in a number of designs, and Furzefield Primary School chose the Linear canopy. The canopy had white (RAL 9101) steelwork, guttering and downpipes and an Opal polycarbonate roof. This light, bright new space, adds another large area to the school site. What a lovely new space they have – it has truly been the perfect choice.
The result is a new covered area. They have activity tables, sandpit, wellie rack under cover now and plenty of room to set up activities for the children. A&S Landscape are specialists in school canopies and were more than happy to come up with some design ideas for Warlingham School. As schools grow in pupil numbers, the requirement for outdoor dining canopies is also growing. Having installed many such canopies recently, we knew that we would have just the thing. The decision was made to install a Motiva Duo™, steel and polycarbonate canopy at an overall size of 25000mm x 10000mm.
The result is a huge new covered dining space which pupils can use to dine, socialise, learn or just enjoy some fresh air. The large canopy is bright and smart and has Alu-Tuff™ (aluminium box profile) guttering and downpipes to ensure that rainwater is effectively managed, and the life of the canopy maximised. This external dining space is a lovely addition to a super school. A&S Landscape has a wide range of school shelters, which can be used to create dining shelters and outdoor learning areas amongst others. Our gallery contains over a thousand pictures of our work and you can view them for some inspiration.
Working alongside our building contractor client our engineers erected a straight polycarbonate roof canopy in Notre Dame Junior School Racecourse Road, Lingfield. The contract included the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight roof coloured polycarbonate canopy measuring 11640mm X 2300mm and 5000mm X 1800mm with Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.
Two of the school buildings had a very unloved available space between them that was not used by the children because it exposed them to the elements, be it UV rays in the summer or wet weather in the winter. This was a real shame because the more options the children have for spending time outside or having some quiet time outside the classroom, the better.
With more than 40 years’ experience working with schools and other public buildings we were very pleased to come up with a solution for the area. Our Motiva Duo™ was perfect to span across the space. Aluminium gutters completed the canopy, ensuring that rainwater was efficiently taken from the roof and away from the area.
The result is a new space for the children of St Piers School to enjoy. The addition of a colourful fence means this is safe and secure and can be enjoyed throughout the school day and in fact throughout the year if they so wish! We are pleased to have helped create additional external space, which can be used as an outdoor learning area.

The steelwork was bright White (RAL 9010) and to complement this they added a multicoloured polycarbonate roof.
The canopy measures 9000mm x 4000mm and looks fantastic in the playground. The brightly coloured roof even casts a colourful hue on to the playground below in the sunnier months. The children at Gosden House School have the option to enjoy some shade from the sunshine or shelter from the rain no matter what the time of year. Being able to enjoy fresh air and some quiet time is extremely helpful for children with additional needs and this new canopy has met this need perfectly. We think it looks great too! We made a canopy at Danes Hill School Steels Lane, Oxshott. The job involved one steel-framed Motiva™ Duo duopitch curved polycarbonate roof canopy measuring 32000mm X 4000mm and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.
Epsom College, Surrey, was keen to ensure that they were able to offer socially distanced outdoor meeting space to comply with the Government guidance. This historic college was mindful that any shelter solution must fit well with the surrounding buildings.
Dating back to the reign of Queen Victoria, the site is steeped in history. The team at A&S Landscape have experience of working with clients and buildings spanning every age of construction. This means that they are in a great position to advise on the options available for all sorts of canopy installations. With values based on trust, expertise and creativity we believe that there is a shelter solution for every situation.
For the Epsom College project, our designers proposed a canopy cover suspended at a high level from wall-mounted brackets. The product utilised was from our Maxima Sail™ range. Offering flexibility from the point of view of the installation, this great product can also be customised with a choice of fabric types and colours. The final Epsom College installation delivered on the aim of providing sheltered outdoor space. The utilisation of waterproof fabric ensured that those using the seating area beneath are protected from the rain. However, the new outdoor shelter will also be a fabulous sun shelter during the summer months too.
Like so many other schools, Oasis Academy Coulsdon, located in Surrey, wanted to enhance their campus resources. Juggling budgets and student numbers in busy school communities is often a challenge. With not enough in the budget for a full school extension, the question of how to get the most out of the campus resources can be difficult to answer. That is, unless, like Oasis Academy Coulsdon, you start to look at the space on your campus that isn’t actually adding any value. Looking creatively at what space there is outside can often unlock the potential of an otherwise unused space.
Oasis Academy Coulsdon wanted to create a shelter solution that enabled pupils to enjoy the campus outside spaces, whilst protecting them from the weather. Rain or shine, a well thought-out canopy cover can be a great way to achieve this. Following a consultation with our designers, Oasis Academy Coulsdon commissioned a 12 metre by 10 metre Motiva Duo™ from our range. The Duo is a fabulous choice for an outdoor shelter on a high school campus. The sizes and configurations are expansive and, the opportunity to customise your design comes in the form of a range of optional extras. Oasis Academy brought in colours from their emblem and uniform, selecting Signal Green (RAL 6032) for the steel shelter frame and Opal for the polycarbonate roofing.
