Requirement
Christ’s College in East Finchley, London describes itself as “a modern, forward looking school that combines cutting edge provision in teaching and learning with traditional values”.  To ensure that the school had adequate dining provision for all students they decided to add an outdoor dining canopy. This would provide a large all weather seating area in addition to the dining hall. Initially they wanted the structure to be timber so that it worked in harmony with the natural environment.

Solution
After some discussion and reassurance, they agreed on a design of steel and polycarbonate in muted colours. This meant that the canopy worked in harmony with the natural environment but had all the advantages of reduced maintenance and greater longevity when compared with a timber canopy. The steelwork was Mahogany Brown (RAL 8016) and the roof was opal polycarbonate.

Result
The resulting covered area measures a fantastic 14000mm x 6300mm and has matching guttering and downpipes. Christ’s College have added 14 picnic benches to the space, creating a really popular dining and socialising area for their students.
