What was the project brief?

Bedlington Academy reached out to us when they were looking to install an outdoor canopy on their premises in Northumberland, they were specifically attracted to A&S Landscape for both the aesthetics and technical advantages of our canopies; given that our canopies do not require central posts, and feature our advanced drainage systems. They needed the outdoor space to be robust and provide efficient shelter for a large capacity of students, and after discussing their needs with our expert consultants, we began designing them an exceptional covered space.

What was our canopy solution?

We designed and supplied our large Motiva Duo™ canopy, with dimensions of 16000mm X 8000mm – which can comfortably seat up to 144 students. The design featured steelwork with a Dusty Grey Duracoat™, glass side panels to one end (providing additional shelter from side winds), and a polycarbonate roof in our popular Opal shade. The result is an impressive canopy that has been manufactured and built to last. Our Motiva Duo™ canopy is a popular option for outdoor canopies, with highly flexible dimensions to fit your area and capacity needs.

About the client

Bedlington Academy is located in the South-East of Northumberland by the coast, and is one of 11 Academies within the North East Learning Trust. They describe school life to be “inclusive, supportive, and inspiring, helping young people prepare for their learning journey ahead”; we are happy to have been able to work with them to develop their premises and support this initiative.

What is a Duracoat™ finish, and why is it important?

Our Duracoat™ finish is a multistage process of two main parts, galvanizing, and powder coating.

The Duracoat™ applied to all of our steelwork is a crucial element that contributes to the quality and longevity of our products. The galvanising process gives the steel a robust, durable, and corrosion-protective finish; meanwhile, the powder coat promotes resistance to scratching, cracking, peeling, UV rays, and rust – whilst providing an array of eye-catching colour options for your structure!

The end result is a coating that not only has great abrasion resistance but one that can last up to 170 years.
