A&S Landscape installed four straight roof canopies at the local nursery, at several points around the grounds. The Motiva Linear shelters feature a range of brightly coloured steelwork, including Mid Blue, Red, Signal Green and Bright Yellow. Opal polycarbonate was also used on every canopy, providing important protection from UV rays.

The young pupils of Ark Nursery absolutely love their new playground shelters, already they have become very popular additions to the playgrounds. Break times can always be spent outside in the fresh air, allowing the children to let off steam and relax. The staff can also take their classes outdoors without having to plan around the often-unpredictable weather.

Outside play equipment could also be kept under the shelter, saving valuable storage space inside. Plus, parents can wait covered from the elements for their children at home time. We know that Ark Nursery will get such great use out of their new canopies and we’re happy we could be a part of their new site.

How playing outdoors can help children to sleep better and stay healthy and how we can encourage them to do so

Health is detrimentally affected by not getting ample exercise, leading to increasing numbers of obesity in children and adolescents. Children are not playing outside as much as they used to, limiting their exposure to sunlight and thus the formation of Vitamin D which helps to tackle infection and keeps skin healthy. Sunlight also helps to regulate the development of melatonin which regulates sleep. Phones and tablets emit harmful blue light, which can cause headaches and eye strain. Blue light in the evenings can even restrain the formation of melatonin, which in turn can make going to sleep very hard for some children.

So what is the answer to this slippery slope that we find ourselves on… More time outside!
