At A&S Landscape, we create covered areas for schools. Our range includes steel and polycarbonate canopies, tensile fabric structures, and cycle storage solutions.

We have been around for over forty years, and have an impressive reputation. Not just because of our expertise, but because of our exceptional service too.

The service, the quality of build, the whole project so far, with A&S. has been absolutely fantastic.

Our products are used across the UK, for covered walkways, playground shade and shelter, outdoor dining areas, entrance canopies, covered seating, and much more.

Our clients are often working to tight budgets, and usually with many stakeholders to satisfy. We are good at developing affordable solutions that turn visions, into reality.

The design of the canopy, I think, is perfect for what we need. It provides the ultimate amount of shade that we can hope for, in the playground.

I wanted a large shelter for our students, and I was very pleased with the drawings I received from A&S.

The price was very good as well, which is another important thing when schools are budgeting, and they were just, very professional. I can't praise them enough.

Manufacturing here in the UK, we believe in taking the best designs, using the best materials, and giving them the best protection for a long life. We don't cut corners. We don't use aluminum structures, fiberglass roofs, or plastic guttering. If you choose a product from A&S Landscape, you are choosing the best.

We chose this, because we thought it was the most aesthetically pleasing, and one, that would also appeal to the children.

I am very pleased with the overall quality of the design, and the construction.

Whether building site, or bustling school, we understand the challenges, and work to ensure a clean, and safe installation, to your satisfaction.

We got the go ahead from the PTA just after Christmas, and the canopy was installed, less than three months later, in March, and it was installed to very high standard.

The A&S contractors have been absolutely fantastic. A&S is certainly delivering a product, which has exceeded my expectations.

They were very professional. Very friendly, they covered all the carpets up for us, which we requested, with plastic, and they kept me in the loop, at all times. I would recommend them, definitely.

I'm the deputy principle of Blackpool Aspire Academy.

Blackpool Aspire Academy came together as an Academy from Bispham High School, and Collegiate High School.

We moved into this brand new school, but it was a brand new school that did not have any shelter for students, when the weather turned poor. So, a priority for us, in the school, was to create a shelter.

Working with consultant architects, the consultants architects went through the procurement process with us. Found a number of quotes, and then decided on, or suggested to us, that we look to A&S. The service, the quality of build, the whole project so far with A&S, has been absolutely fantastic.

I wanted a large shelter for our students, and I was very pleased with the drawings I received from A&S, via the consultant architects, showing what a thirty eight by six meter structure, would look like.

It came within budget, and I decided to go for that. But the way in which A&S have started to build, is really superb. The quality of the ground work, and the way in which the columns have been erected, and now the rafters are going in, and the polycarbonate.

I am very pleased with the overall quality of the design, and the construction.

The A&S contractors have been absolutely fantastic. They are keen, they have worked well with our site staff. I am very, very pleased with the way in which the structure is looking now. We are now seeing a shelter coming about which is exceeding my expectations.

Before the canopy was installed, the playground was very bare, there was no shade from the rain, or the sun, for the children or parents.

We decided to enhance the playground, with having a canopy, but from the outset, we wanted the canopy to be as large as possible, so it could accommodate the maximum number of children.

We are also a Sun Safe school, and having the canopy installed, enabled us to meet many of the criteria, for the Sun safe school accreditation. And we chose this, because we thought it was the most aesthetically pleasing, and one that would also appeal to the children, because at the end of the day, it is their canopy.

We can use the canopy to play in and use it for hiding places, or keep out the weather.

I was very excited because we could have some shelter from the rain, because normally we would have to go and sit under the gazebo and it still got wet and this floor has just stayed the normal floor.

It gives an opportunity to, sort of experience life outside of the four walls of the classroom for a start. It helps to engage them, to see it as an exciting opportunity to do their learning in a new environment, a different environment, which helps to keep them focused.

Throughout the day, it is used as an outdoor teaching resource, very versatile, that is one of the beauties of it. A teacher can plan an activity outside, and they know that they will be able to undertake that activity, whether it be hot sunshine, or whether it be pouring with rain, they will be able to undertake it, because of the canopy. At lunchtime it is used for the children to eat under, and also to play under, so it is used the whole school day.

When I first saw the canopy, I thought it was really good, because like, the next door school doesn't have it, we are lucky, that we get to have it.

When I first saw the canopy I was shocked.

And they were just very professional. I can't praise them enough. I would recommend them, definitely.

With A&S, from start to finish, it has been quite a smooth process, where we have worked with the design going through the foundations and what we need to achieve, and working with the guys on site, has been well, as well.

They have managed to work in a sequence that has enabled us to get other trades to work in and around them a chance to work in the (00:22:1 – inaudible), and that the ground work goes, and due to the weather, we have had, with the external rain, we have managed to work around them like the ground workers and due to the weather we’ve had with the external render we’ve managed to work in and around the external render as well.

The guys have bought into the site team ethos of everyone works together to get the end result. So it is working really well. We're quite happy to work with A&S again in future projects, getting in early involvement, so that we can go through the design, and make sure we end up giving exactly what the client wants.

I'm very, very pleased with it. We have had positive feedback from children, most importantly, the children. We have had positive feedback from the staff, positive feedback from the governors, and also members of the parent teachers association, who funded the majority of the work. So it has had a huge impact upon the whole school community.

Our duracoat finish is a multistage process, in two main parts, galvanizing and powder coating.

Hot dipped galvanizing, is the process of coating steel, by immersing the metal in a bath of molten zinc, at very high temperatures. A coating is formed, giving the steel a robust, durable, and corrosion protective finish.

Powder coating, is the top coat. The process of coating the surface with a powder material, heated to its melting point, which then flows and cures to form a smooth, firm, durable finish. Very resistant to scratches, cracking, peeling, UV rays and rust.

The secret to a good quality coating, lies in the preparation of the surface. This is achieved, by taking the steel through a number of pretreatment stages.

Degreasing is first carried out, using either acid or alkaline based chemicals. Pickling is carried out in diluted hydrochloric acid, which produces a chemically clean surface, which will react with the molten zinc.

A mixture of zinc chloride and ammonium chloride are then used, before the steel work is thoroughly dried. We then immerse the steelwork in a special bath, holding malt and zinc at four hundred and fifty degrees C. While it is submerged, it alloys with the iron in the steel, to form zinc iron alloy layers. These layers form the basis of the coating, which is then overlaying with zinc as it is withdrawn from the bath.

The end result, is a coating that not only has great abrasion resistance, but one that can last up to a hundred and seventy years.

During fettling, we carefully remove any uneven hardened galvanizing drips, to provide a quality finish, to the surface of the final product. More degreasing, cleaning, rinsing and drying, now follows, before the powdered coating is applied.

Powder coatings are based on polymer resin systems, combined with curatives, pigments, leveling agents, flow modifiers, and other additives. These ingredients are mixed and ground into a uniformed powder, a bit like flour. We use a spray gun which applies an electrostatic charge to the powder particles, which are then, attracted to the steel.

After a part is sprayed, it is transferred to a large oven, where the powder melts and flows into a smooth coating. Our duracoat finish provides a more durable finish than liquid paints can offer. Products are more resistant to scratches, chipping, abrasions, corrosion, fading and other wear issues. It's tough, it looks great, and it lasts a long, long time.

If it's really sunny, it keeps us away from the sun so that we don't get burnt.

We can use the canopy to play and use it for hiding places, or keep out of the weather. You can use it to learn in, as well.

When I first saw the canopy, I thought it was really good, the next door school doesn't have it, we are lucky that we got to have it. My friends think it is excellent.

When I first saw the canopy, I was shocked.

My name is Lesley Douglas, I'm the school administrator in Bispham, and I've been at this school for sixteen years.

Its been absolutely brilliant for the children, because we have got the canopy cover, and also there is the shade, that goes further.

The PTA, have invested in all the furniture for the children, as well. So when the children are having sandwiches, or if its a break, they can come and sit and have the shade as well.

They came the first week, in the Easter holidays, and they were very professional, very friendly. They covered all the carpets up for us, which we requested, with plastic, and they kept me in the loop, at all times.

The price was very good as well, which is another important thing when schools are budgeting. And they were just very professional. I can't praise them enough. I would recommend them, definitely.

When choosing a quote for a new shelter or canopy, it’s fairly common to find that a cheaper quote may include plastic guttering.

At A&S Landscape, we don’t work with plastic guttering at all and that’s because it simply doesn’t meet our high standards for the quality of build that our clients deserve.

Plastic guttering is less expensive but that’s because it comes with compromises. When exposed to UV light it becomes brittle over time and is much more prone to cracks and leaking. It just doesn’t fit the vision we have for building structures that work as well in the future as the day they were installed.

That’s why we use Alu-tuff™. It's tough, durable and long lasting but the truth is, it also looks a lot better and we know that’s an important part of the equation too. Being able to coat your guttering to match or, if you’re feeling daring, in contrast to the rest of the structure gives additional creative freedom.

We know this is not just about getting the job done. It’s about getting the right job, designed and built to last. When it comes to guttering – don’t compromise.

At A&S Landscape, we don’t employ high pressure sales people. We don’t believe in it and we also know that you don’t have time for it. We believe in travelling with you on a mutual journey to the best solution for you.

This means that in the first stages, instead of having a visit from somebody trying to sell you something you may not be able to afford, just take a simple photograph of the space you’re looking to transform and send it over to us along with any supporting information.

We’ll get back to you with ideas, suggestions, pictures and price options and when you’re ready - a full proposal, fully illustrated with clear and transparent pricing.

The whole point of this process is to save you time and get you exactly what you need. Our first meeting can then be supported with the correct information and draft drawings. We can walk you through the options available on site, so you can get a clear understanding of what we can do for you and how the options will look.

We work really closely with schools to provide solutions that add value to their space and leave a minimal footprint on the time of the people involved so you know that with A&S Landscape you’re going to get the most efficient, professional service available.

You can send your photos and any measurements to sales@aandslandscape.com

This is a topic very close to our hearts. Having worked with schools all across the country, we understand just how many decisions need to be made each day and how precious your time is. We also understand that decisions by committee (governors meetings) can lead to rushed, even poor decisions particularly when some members have had no time to consider key features and benefits.

In our budget driven world, we understand that price is high on the list of deciding factors and is an easy and quick comparison. We want you to consider something else and that’s comparing like for like.

A cheap quote for an inferior product is not good value, you need to be sure that you are getting quality that really lasts and it may be that this is not always the cheapest quote. It means looking at the cost over the lifetime of the structure.

It means asking what materials may need ongoing maintenance. Materials like timber frames or plastic guttering and if they’re being used to lower the price of a quote, rather than provide long term quality. It is important to factor in the cost of maintenance and replacement.

Using our Motiva canopy range as an example, a steel structure with aluminium guttering is so much more cost effective and provides sustainability for a long term solution and much better value for money.

At A&S Landscape we will match any written like for like estimate. So, if your looking for the best value, if you judge based on the structure that is going to meet your needs then you’ll find we cannot be beaten on price.

Often you'll notice that suppliers can hide costs for additional items. Some things you can check are as follows; groundworks, are they included in the estimate? What are the gutters made of? Steelwork, has it been galvanised beneath the coated surface? Never be afraid to ask probing questions in your quest for best value.

Our job is to create the best outdoor shelter for your school and that doesn’t mean the cheapest initial quote, it means the shelter that will provide you with the greatest return on your investment over its lifetime. Click here to see why our canopies last longer.

Haileybury is an independent private school in the leafy Hertfordshire, and caters for children from eleven to eighteen.

We were looking for a new covered playground, as the old one had seen better days, and we had a little look on Google and fortunately, we came across a company called A&S Landscape, who we immediately found to be very efficient and provided a wonderful first draft for us.

We worked with them closely until we had what is now a gorgeous finished project. The staff were very, very helpful. From the very start A&S Landscape were clearly the company to go with. They were very accommodating and worked very well with Hailebury, as a school.

The project only took a few weeks, as these projects tend to do, but went very well, and the end product we have today, we are over the moon. The finished project, or the finished product is amazing. Everyone who has seen the finished product, are absolutely overjoyed, and the children can't wait to start playing in it.

We didn't only ask A&S to provide the covered playground, we also asked for some additional products, a couple of table tennis tables, and also some of the garden furniture, which they installed as part of the project. We are incredibly pleased with what we have got.

Sometimes it’s hard to really picture the scale of the work to bring our structures to life which is why this time-lapse from Haileybury College is so useful.

We built a covered MUGA (Multi Use Game Area) - a previously underused pitch now has year-round value and with the professional dedication of our team the installation was seamless.

Take a look at the time-lapse, which shows the transformation minute by minute.

Whether it’s a MUGA or an outdoor teaching space, dining area or social zone, at A&S Landscape we are often adding a space that simply did not exist before, providing a range of new opportunities for your students.

And if it is a MUGA you want, you get two options, a dryMUGA™, like the one used at Haileybury College or the Maxima Sports Tepee ideal for smaller schemes.
