Buggy Store for Alverley CP School in Shropshire
The St Lawrence Academy in Lincolnshire lacked a space where their students could gather outside under a shelter. A&S Landscape helped the academy to choose a cost-effective canopy to solve their issue.
Basalt Grey - RAL 7012
A straight roof canopy from the Motiva range was chosen by the academy and installed next to part of the school building. The Motiva Linear measures 7500mm X 6000mm, so there is plenty of space for the students to gather outside to socialise. The grey steelwork blends in seamlessly with the surrounding environment so the canopy looks as though it has always been there.
Now the students of The St Lawrence Academy can enjoy some fresh air during their break and lunchtimes. This helps them to feel refreshed and ready for their next lessons. Even when the weather conditions are poor, the outside space can be utilised which relieves pressure from the school buildings.
What’s more, is that staff can choose to take lessons outside, underneath the canopy. This provides an alternative learning experience, which will engage and motivate the class. The students can now experience life outside of the four walls of the classroom. Come rain or shine, this valuable outside space can always be used by the academy.
Our wellbeing is adversely affected by not getting enough exercise, resulting in increasing rates of obesity in children and adolescents. Children are not playing outside as much as they did previously, curbing their contact with sunlight and thus the production of Vitamin D which helps to fight infection and keeps skin healthy. Sunlight also helps to control the formation of melatonin which regulates sleep. TV screens emit harmful blue light, which can cause headaches and eye strain. Blue light in the evenings can even restrain the development of melatonin, which in turn can make going to sleep very difficult for some children.
