Outdoor Seating Canopy Installed at Highfield Grange Holiday Park, Clacton

Highfield Grange Holiday Park in Clacton-on-Sea is a very popular coastal destination with more than 600 accommodation units. During the holidays, families come here to have some fun time, and during their stay, they move from one activity area to another. The entertainment venue, restaurants, and outdoor terraces are some of the important areas that get a lot of use.

Project Overview

Motiva Duo™

  • Steelwork:

Slate Grey - RAL NO. 7015

  • Roof:

    Opal

  • Size:

    12m x 10m

During busy periods, these places can become very crowded, and there isn’t adequate cover from weather elements. The guests sometimes are left uncomfortable due to a limited amount of shelter in place for protection against outdoor weather. Many guests have not been able to enjoy the outdoor areas throughout the park due to these issues. To address these concerns presented by guests at the park, it was necessary for the park team to create an adequate shelter so that guests could eat and socialise in comfort.

Challenges

  • High footfall: When the park was experiencing peak times, a lot of people usually overcrowd the food and entertainment space.
  • Weather exposure: Guests were exposed to rain, wind, and sun when they were outdoors.
  • Limited outdoor use: During bad weather conditions, guests couldn’t use seating areas as they should.
  • Coastal conditions: Because of its location close to the coast, structures that would be installed needed to be able to withstand heavy wind and corrosion.

Our Solution

After speaking to the staff and working with the park’s consultants, we got a good idea of what the park needed. This allowed us to understand people’s movement around the park, especially in those areas with very high foot traffic. It also helped us determine the right position to erect the canopy to offer the best value.

We installed a 12,000mm x 10,000mm Motiva Duo™ canopy creating a very large outdoor covered area for people to sit. The Slate Grey RAL 7015 was used for the finish to ensure our structure blended into the other buildings already on site.

We installed polycarbonate panels on one side of the canopy for added wind protection as an additional option. Heating and festoon lighting were also installed to make the space cosy in the evenings/colder days.

Power, socket availability and TV bracket installation were incorporated into the canopy design to accommodate the entertainment needs of park visitors/staff.

Key Features and Materials

  • Structure: To ensure the canopy lasts for a long time without rusting, we finished the steel frame with Dura-coat™ Slate Grey RAL 7015.
  • Roofing: We added polycarbonate roof panels with an opal finish to let light in and provide adequate weather protection.
  • Guttering: To collect rainwater, we used Alu-Tuff™ guttering and downpipes with a matching Dura-coat™ finish.
  • Sides: For extra protection from the wind, we added polycarbonate side panels on one side.

Results

  • Added more comfort: Guests can now sit outside whether it is raining or sunny.
  • Better use of space: Outdoor seating areas are used more often during the day.
  • Reduce foot traffic: The covered area helps spread foot traffic more evenly.
  • Stronger durability: The installed canopy holds up well in coastal weather conditions.

Conclusion

Highfield Grange Holiday Park has maximised their outdoor guest space with this project, giving guests a place to relax, eat and socialise comfortably. The canopy is able to be used all year round, providing an enhanced experience for their evening time periods.

By using the Motiva Duo™ in an appropriate location, the park usage has improved for both their visitors and staff. The final product is a functional, welcoming space that can be enjoyed in any weather condition.
