The Peele Community College in Lincolnshire Create Covered Chill Out Area
At a lovely primary school in Leicester, there once lived a bare space between two classroom buildings. And then, The Hall Primary School called A&S Landscape to discuss how they could transform the area with a new school canopy.
Gentian Blue - RAL NO. 5010
With more than 40 years’ experience working with schools, A&S Landscape was delighted to help. We offer a wide range of canopy products, from Tepees and Umbrellas to steel and polycarbonate canopies and we decided that the Linear canopy from our Motiva range would work best in the space.
The Motiva Linear also allows us to add coloured polycarbonate roofing. Something that primary aged children love. It not only looks great, but it shelters from the rain, shades from the sun and best of all, casts colourful beams on the playground in the sunshine. Their own little bit of magic, the school have done a great job of creating a fun and interesting area.
A common but under-researched topic of social and emotional development in children is appreciating the advantages of spending time outside and how substantial the effects are. For such a critical aspect of childhood, the gaps in research here are somewhat astounding. Not least because, the research that currently exists confirms that there is conclusive evidence that outdoor time, like outdoor play, or outdoor classrooms, has a notable positive impact on a child’s social and emotional development. These emerging studies come from many disciplines using a extensive range of methods that all lead to the same belief.
Specifically, papers concentrating on; risk-taking, sensory skills, confidence, and anxiety detail how outdoor play favourably influences children’s social and emotional development.
The new canopy has transformed this once unloved area and created a new space for playing, learning, storing play equipment and generally keeping out of the weather. All this without the need for formal building works and planning permission, what a super idea. The children really like it too which is the most important thing!
There are many different designs available, all in high-quality materials. These range from, Umbrellas and Tepees, to straight or curved roof steel canopies. A&S Landscape has a range which is sure to offer you something special. Feel free to look through our gallery, which has more than 1500 images to inspire you. We’ve also designed bespoke multicoloured polycarbonate roof canopies for Tadpole Farm in Swindon.
