Freestanding Playground Canopy at Ysgol Croes Atti Flintshire
Gosden House School has delightful outdoor spaces for the children to enjoy. One particular area was in need of some love and it was the perfect space to add some shade and shelter to the playground.
We have been helping schools to transform and enhance their outdoor areas for more than 40 years so we were delighted to be asked to help. A&S Landscape offers a wide selection of products in our range. These include canopies with fabric roofs and polycarbonate roofs. Gosden House School chose a Motiva Linear canopy, made from steel and polycarbonate. The steel was bright White (RAL 9010) and the roofing was multicoloured polycarbonate.
The canopy was large at 9000mm x 4000mm and it looks wonderful in the playground. The bright roof creates a colourful shadow on the ground below when the sun shines in the sunnier months. Now all the children have a new space to enjoy whatever the weather. They can have shade from the sun or shelter from the rain no matter what time of year it is. Children with additional needs benefit from quiet time and outdoor time and this new covered area has met this need for the pupils at Gosden House School. It is a lovely new addition to the playground and we think it looks really smart!

Children are not in control of the food they consume or the exercise they undertake. On top of that, when they exercise, the respiratory implications and body weakness can contribute to embarrassment amongst their peers as they face problems moving. However, it is essential to promote healthier eating, more exercise, and support a child who lives with obesity in battling the depression, anxiety, stigma, and the health and academic effects related with obesity, which is a task much more significant than it first seems.
We can define some of the remedies Dame Sally Davies outlines in her report: Time To Solve Childhood Obesity into three factors.
• Children need to play outdoors.
• Children need access to a healthy diet.
• Schemes need to be implemented by schools, manufacturers, health services, town planners and politicians to create better opportunities for children to have access to outdoor play and healthy food regardless of their social-economic status.
