Outdoor Shelter at Sunshine Pre School
Finlay Community School decided to install a playground canopy to give their pupils a sheltered space to use all-year-round. A&S Landscape thoroughly enjoyed working with the school on this fantastic project.
Blue Lilac - RAL NO. 4005
A straight roof Motiva Linear canopy was built alongside one of the school buildings. Measuring a total of 17500mm X 3000mm, there is plenty of space for the pupils to use. The school chose a beautiful blue lilac finish for the steelwork, which adds a pop of colour to the campus. The opal polycarbonate roofing also allows some sunlight through, while blocking harmful UV rays.
Now the pupils of Finlay Community School have an outside space they can use throughout the year, no matter the weather conditions. This allows the pupils to enjoy some fresh air during their breaks, leaving them refreshed and ready for their next lessons. Parents could use the canopy to shelter from the elements when they are waiting for their children at the end of the day.
Classrooms have long been the environment of choice for a lot of schools, but the benefits of outdoor learning are speedily being recognised. You may actually think that it’s not feasible, especially with the unstable British weather, but with a shelter, teaching outdoors can become a reality. With many dimensions available for different purposes, any school can install a shelter to change any outdoor area into a new sort of classroom.
For children, new environments can enliven and delight, creating an increased potential to pick up new information. At a young age, typical classrooms can provide little stimulation for pupils and educational growth can become underdeveloped. By exploring the use of outdoor teaching, children can find different and refreshing ways of learning. Fresh air, and the potential to teach in a far larger space, can open up new doors to the technique that lessons are taught and the exercises which can be performed.
What’s more, is that the teachers can also use the canopy during lessons. This alternative learning environment will engage the class, as the pupils get the opportunity to learn outside of the four walls of a classroom. The weather will never disrupt Finlay Community School’s plans again. In fact, the school was so pleased with the finished product that they awarded the work five stars.
