Due to rising intake figures, Fairfield High School needed to increase their seating capacity during lunchtimes. A&S Landscape worked closely with the school to design a shelter which would create more usable space.
A curved roof canopy was installed at the school, measuring 14m x 5m. The Motiva Mono features Ultramarine Blue coloured steelwork, which matches the school’s logo. Opal polycarbonate sheeting was used on the roof, which even provides protection from harmful UV rays.
During break and lunchtimes, the students now have a choice of where they can sit, either in the main hall or outside under their new shelter. This allows them to enjoy some fresh air during the day, no matter the weather conditions. The original dining hall is relieved of pressure, and it is much easier for everyone to find a seat and have their food.
Fairfield High School already has a fantastic range of facilities, including two Astro pitches, dance and drama studios. The new shelter could also be used as a social space for the students to sit and chat and could be the perfect place to relax before an exam. We were so pleased we could help to further improve the services offered to the students. We also worked with Paulton Infant School in Bristol, where we installed a white shelter and a fabric sail shade.
A&S Landscape has installed many dining area canopies at schools across the UK. Our shelters are a great way of increasing the seating capacity, often without needing planning permission. Choose from curved, straight or fabric roof designs. We also offer fully enclosed canopies, complete with lighting and heating. Call us today to discuss your plans on 01743 444100.
There are a great deal of verified benefits to eating outside as a part of the school day. As pupils spend the whole day in a classroom setting, it is essential that they are given time to breathe at lunchtime. In spending this break outdoors, it not only promotes a restful environment but can also reduce levels of hyperactivity in a pupil. If a pupil is to occupy their break inside, it can echo the classroom environment and stop them from taking a sufficient amount of time to relax. Alfresco dining is also an extremely sociable activity, unrestricted by the dining hall environment children can interact with different year groups freely.
