St Nicholas Church of England Primary School in Somerset Add Multiple Canopies
Slate Grey - RAL NO. 7015
The need for a modern cycle shelter brought this housing association to contact A&S Landscape for help. The Housing 21 Extra Care building located in Fakenham in Norfolk is a brand new apartment development, offering independent living and on-site care for people over the age of 55.
As part of their modern complex of facilities, Housing 21 wanted to provide a bike shelter on site for use by residents and visitors. Getting the right style to fit with the rest of the development was important, and this called for a custom canopy solution.
This was an exciting opportunity for our team to develop a truly bespoke canopy cover on a brand-new development. A&S Landscape offers a wide range of bicycle shelter solutions, but for Housing 21, the brief called for something just a little bit different. The great thing about our canopy cover products is that with a little imagination, the flexible nature of their manufacture and construction means that they can be used for a whole range of different shelters.
Our team capitalised on the flexibility of our product range to create a design for Housing 21 that fitted well with the surrounding brand new development. Their final design actually used our Motiva Duo™ which is a curved roof canopy cover, perfect as a standalone structure, covered walkway or even picnic shelter. To meet the cycle shelter brief, we added eight cycle hoops which will accommodate up to 16 bicycles.
The final bicycle shelter comprised a 5000mm x 4000mm steel shelter frame. The addition of the cycle hoops defined the shelter solution as a designated bike shelter. Finished with a Slate Grey (RAL 7015) colour for the steel structure, with a clear polycarbonate roof, their new cycle shelter fitted perfectly with the surrounding facilities.
Housing 21 now have a purpose-built, practical cycle shelter for residents and visitors to secure their bikes away at Meadow Walk. Bikes are protected from the weather, as they are safely secured with our sturdy steel hoop system, and catering for up to 16 bikes it means that there is plenty of storage space to cater for the residents of the 66 on-site apartments.
As a leader in the not-for-profit sector, Housing 21 provide retirement housing as well as extra care for older people. They have a wide reach with operations in close to 200 UK local authority areas. Their offering also includes the provision of social care input, with them delivering some 42,000 hours every week.
Housing 21 operate in a highly regulated sector, where high standards are vitally important. The Regulator of Social Housing requires that they have good governance, financial stability and that they are delivering value for money to their stakeholders. Standards in each of these areas must be met for Housing 21 to maintain their title of a Registered Provider. There is also the requirement for Housing 21 to be regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) too. The role of the CQC is to ensure that all health and social care providers are delivering first class, safe care. A quick look at the 360 degree virtual tour of the new Housing 21’s Fakenham show home clearly shows how high standards have been in-built into this new extra care facility. And with a café/bistro, hair salon and a range of other facilities on site, the new development is a top-class choice for extra care living in the Norfolk area.
With Norfolk being a fabulous place to cycle, the options for residents on the Housing 21 site to get out and about by bike are numerous in the Fakenham area. This means that the addition of their new bike shelter is going to be a real bonus.
With the popularity of cycling increasing year on year, many organisations are now looking to increase their bike shelter capacity. But with UK planning policy encouraging local authorities to ensure that sustainable transport options are available, it can also be a planning requirement that a developer provides an adequate cycle compound or bike shelter. Testimonials from our past cycle shelter clients echo the benefit of making the investment. It therefore makes good sense from both a business and sustainability perspective. The addition of a cycle shelter is definitely going to be attractive to your stakeholders, regardless of the sector in which you operate.
