Straight Roof Shelter at William Gilbert Endowed C of E Primary School in Derbyshire
Slate Grey - RAL NO. 7015
Ashton Keynes C of E Primary School in Swindon, Wiltshire wanted to add a shelter outside of their reception classrooms. This would allow the young pupils to play outside in all weather conditions and enjoy some fresh air. It was also important to the school that the shelter provided UV ray protection, as the space would be used by some of the youngest pupils.
Our design team proposed that we use our straight roof Motiva Linear™ canopy. This cost-effective structure could be easily installed in the chosen area and would create plenty of covered space. The Headteacher, Samantha Saville, was very impressed with our drawings, agreed details and A&S Landscape was asked to start work on the project.
The flat roof Motiva Linear™ was made to an overall size of 6000mm X 4500mm and featured Steel Grey (RAL 7015) coloured steelwork. This contrasted perfectly with the brightly coloured roof panels, in the shades Daffodil and Lagoon Blue. The colourful polycarbonate roof sheets were chosen for this project to encourage the pupils to play under the canopy, while still providing essential protection from UV rays.
Everyone at Ashton Keynes C of E Primary School is thrilled with the new addition to the playground. The space has been transformed into a fun and welcoming play area, thanks to the colourful design of the shelter. The school also use the covered canopy as a storage area for their play apparatus during lessons and over the weekends.
Thanks to the versatility of our outdoor shelters, schools can use the covers for a wide range of applications. For example, a scooter rack could be installed underneath to create a covered shelter, or side panels can be added to form a secure storage unit. Children are generally not in charge of the food they eat or the exercise they take. On top of that, when they exercise, the respiratory implications and body weakness can give rise to embarrassment amongst their peers as they have trouble moving. Though, it is vital to encourage healthier eating, more exercise, and support a child who lives with obesity in tackling the depression, anxiety, stigma, and the health and academic consequences connected with obesity, which is a task much more significant than it first seems.
We can define some of the fixes Dame Sally Davies details in her report: Time To Solve Childhood Obesity into three factors.
• Children need to play outside.
• Children need access to a healthy diet.
• Schemes need to be implemented by schools, manufacturers, health services, town planners and politicians to create better opportunities for children to have access to outside play and healthy food regardless of their social-economic status.
