What was the project brief?

Cullingworth Village Hall was building a new site, complete with a café and pre-school. It was decided to give the pre-school facility a secure storage area which could also be used during activities and lessons.

What was our secure storage solution?

Progress PhotoWe used our Motiva Linear canopy, our monopitch straight roof design. In addition to the standard shelter, we added roller shutters to the front and sides of the model. These can be electrically operated by the pre-school staff and provides suitable protection to the contents of the shelter.

The steelwork is finished in a subtle Slate Grey colour, which works perfectly with the exterior of the village hall. Clear polycarbonate sheets were used on the roof of the canopy, allowing a safe level of sunlight through while blocking UV rays. As young children would be spending time in the shelter, this was an important feature for us to include.

Cullingworth Village Hall choose our design as they knew our design and manufacturing process produces high-quality, robust structures. We know the team will be able to use their new secure shelter for many years to come and it will be part of a vital and fantastic community resource.

What was the result of their new outdoor classroom?

The pre-school team at the village hall are over the moon with their new classroom space. The children love completing activities in the shelter as it provides an alternative and engaging environment. What better way to learn about the natural world than to experience it first-hand?

The electrically operated roller shutters also give the team peace-of-mind that the shelter will be safe and secure when it’s not in use. This allows the pre-school to store items in the canopy, saving room inside the building. During the summer months, the village hall could also use the shelter for outside activities and fêtes.

About the client

In April 2018, Cullingworth Village Hall in West Yorkshire opened in a brand-new, purpose-built building. The site included a new café, multiple hall spaces and a pre-school. Already the hall has become an invaluable community resource, allowing local residents to come together in a shared space.

We thoroughly enjoyed working the Village Hall Renewal Committee and the Management Committee. All of the volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the new space would meet its full potential and we’re so proud we could play a part in creating a brilliant village hall and pre-school. From birthday parties to book clubs, this space will bring together the people of Cullingworth.

Why should pre-schools invest in a canopy?

Pre-schools and nurseries play a very important part in young children’s education experience as the lessons and memories made will last a lifetime. This is why it is so important to provide a varied and enriched curriculum, which inspires and engages the pupils.

Our canopies can create an outdoor classroom space, which does just this. Allow your classes the opportunity to experience wildlife and nature as they learn, by inviting the outside in.

Our shelters can also be used to add an area of shade and shelter to playgrounds. This allows the pupils to spend time outside in the fresh air, regardless of the weather. Our range of robust steel and polycarbonate canopies stand up against wind, rain and snow, keeping your play areas accessible throughout the year.

Or you could encourage your pupils to cycle to pre-school with their parents, by adding a bike store. This provides a sheltered space for bikes, tricycles and scooters to be kept throughout the day protected from the weather. It’s a great way of promoting a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle and helps get the children into this great habit from an early age.
