The Peele Community College in Lincolnshire Create Covered Chill Out Area

The Peele Community College recognised the importance of providing a covered outside space which could be used throughout the year. A fabric shade sail was chosen and then installed by A&S Landscape.

Project Specification

  • Product: Maxima Sail™
  • Size: 8000mm X 4000mm
  • Steelwork:
    • Slate Grey - RAL NO. 7015

  • Fabric:
    • Victoria Blue

    • Celadon

A Maxima Sail structure was added to the campus of The Peele Community College, made up of two square sails. The college chose the colours Victoria Blue and Celadon for the fabric, which works well with the slate grey steelwork featured on the six posts. In total, the canopy measures 8000mm X 4000mm, so there is plenty of covered space created.

The sails were made with a waterproof PVC material, so the area can be used throughout the year. From rainy mornings to sunny afternoons, the shade sail will provide great protection against the elements. The Peele Community College in Lincolnshire, decided to add benches to the space, so the students can eat, work and socialise comfortably. Now when the inside study rooms are full, there is a new alternative option outside. This is will be the perfect spot to relax in around exam periods, as students can get some fresh air to clear their minds.

What Are The Benefits Of Outdoor Learning and How Can Schools Achieve This

A joyful teacher is a great teacher and one that is excited about educating children. Introducing a canopy into a school gives both teachers and children a opportunity to explore this together and brings with it a positive sense of freedom. Increasing engagement in school is something every teacher is looking to do and with an shelter from A&S Landscape, it’s made much simpler. The more absorbed students are with their learning, the more their skills develop and the more confident they become in their abilities.

Being outside rather than inside a building, or mundane classroom, all day results in a healthy relationship with nature and helps children to grow up with an admiration for living things. Tutoring children about nature is not necessarily something that is included as part of a curriculum, but it is part of life and an important part of their development as a human being.

With intake figures rising nationally, more and more schools and colleges are choosing to install canopies to create more space. This cost-effective solution is quicker than having to add a new building and typically doesn’t require planning permission. We work with a lot of colleges across the country, including Coleg Powys where we installed a smoking shelter.

A&S Landscape offers a range of fabric canopies, including shade sails, tepee, umbrella and StarSail designs. Browse our gallery for more inspiration or read about our other projects here. You can also call our friendly team to discuss your options on 01743 444100.
