Cirencester Primary School Add Straight Roof Playground Canopies

A&S Landscape was brought on board to help Cirencester Primary School get better use of their outside space. The staff wanted the pupils to be able to spend more time outside in the fresh air, during the school day.

Project Specification

  • Product: Motiva Linear™
  • Sizes: 17600mm X 3500mm | 6600mm X 2300mm
  • Steelwork:
    • Slate Grey - RAL NO. 7015

  • Roof:
    • Opal

Two straight roof shelters were installed at the school, from the Motiva range. Each canopy was finished with Slate Grey steelwork, to create a modern, sleek look. Opal coloured polycarbonate roofing was also used on both structures. This option allows a safe level of sunlight through while blocking harmful UV rays.

The pupils of Cirencester Primary School already love their new shelters. During break times they can play under the cover if it is rainy, snowy or even sunny! This allows them to spend more time outside in the fresh air, which will have many benefits on their wellbeing. It’s great that this school has recognised the importance of spending time outdoors.

The Motiva Linear shelters can also be used to store play equipment underneath, saving valuable room inside. We installed a green straight roof linear canopy at St Peter’s Primary School. Teachers could even use the space as an alternative classroom, which will create an engaging and memorable lesson.

A&S Landscape has worked with schools across the UK, helping them transform their outside space. Our canopies are a great way of cost-effectively creating more useable room, often without the need for planning permission. The rising issue of childhood obesity and what we can do to help children at home and in school

Childhood obesity is debatably at its most critical and one of the more alarming problems we face worldwide. As attested by the World Health Organisation (WHO), it’s one of the most serious public health challenges of the 21st century. This global epidemic is hitting low and middle-income countries, more crucially in urban neighbourhoods. Globally in 2016, the amount of overweight children under the age of five was 41 million. Furthermore, overweight and obese children show a tendency to stay obese into adulthood and are liable to developing health conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular ailments at a younger age.

Childhood obesity and related diseases, such as diabetes are mostly preventable. For this reason, the WHO prioritises the prevention of these conditions in youth, especially because bad dietary habits and a inactive lifestyle are among the main causes of noncommunicable diseases. These conditions, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and particular types of cancer, substantially give rise to the global pressure of disease, death and disability.
