Riverside School in Yorkshire Add Two New Canopies

The pupils at Riverside School love to play outside but when it was raining, they had to stay in during break and lunchtimes. A&S Landscape proposed two canopies which would allow the playground to be used throughout the year, in all conditions.

Project Specification

  • Product: Motiva Linear™
  • Size: 6800mm X 3600mm
  • Steelwork:
    • Slate Grey - RAL NO. 7015

  • Roof:
    • Foxglove

    • Lagoon Blue

  • Post Pads:
    • Bright Purple

A straight roof canopy was installed alongside one of the school buildings, measuring 6800mm X 3600mm. A multicoloured polycarbonate roof was used on the Motiva Linear canopy, with the colours Foxglove and Lagoon. This feature adds a pop of colour to the school site and will create a beautiful effect when the sun shines through the roof.

Riverside School also built a tensile shade sail canopy with a waterproof PVC fabric roof. The Maxima Sail consists of four posts, creating plenty of room underneath the shelter. And because the shade sail was made with waterproof fabric, it can be used by the school in all weather conditions.

Why playground safety is so important and the potential dangers that teachers and schools should look out for

School yards and any outdoor play equipment is a superb way to supply your students a healthy option to get a break from the classroom. School children getting exercise while spending time with their friends is something that schools should absolutely encourage, but it’s also hugely important that the fun isn’t ruined by a child getting hurt while using the playground.

Playgrounds can become hazardous for a wide variety of varying factors. Unsafe behaviour is certainly something that teachers and students alike should be on the lookout for. But together with protecting children from the weather, uneven and improper surfaces can also cause accidents – and unsafe or broken outdoor equipment can quickly turn the fun sour.

The two new shelters have completely transformed the school campus, the pupils can now play outdoors no matter the weather. Lunchbreaks can also be taken outside, relieving pressure from the dining hall. The pupils can arrive at their afternoon lessons feeling refreshed and motivated after being able to enjoy the fresh air. Teachers can also choose to take their classes outside, offering an exciting, alternative learning environment.
