When Monksdown Primary School wanted us to design a colourful canopy even we didn’t envisage just how fabulously it would turn out. With coloured roofing and decals on the side panels, we think this is probably the most colourful canopy designed and built by anyone, anywhere!

Visual we created for Monksdown Primary School

The roller shutter doors add value by providing secure storage for play equipment overnight. We’ve also installed several other canopies with roller shutters at schools across the UK, including the shelter we added to Lacey Green School in Cheshire.

How regular exercise and outdoor play helps to keep children healthy and how we can facilitate this at home and in school

Our wellbeing is negatively affected by not getting enough exercise, creating increasing numbers of obesity in children and adolescents. Children are not playing outside as much as they have done in the past, limiting their contact with sunlight and thus the production of Vitamin D which helps to combat infection and keeps skin healthy. Sunlight also helps to regulate the creation of melatonin which regulates sleep. Smartphones emit harmful blue light, which can cause headaches and eye strain. Blue light in the evenings can even restrain the production of melatonin, which in turn can make falling asleep very difficult for some children.
