Meltham Moor Primary School in West Yorkshire Adds Outdoor Canopy

What was the project brief?

Meltham Moor Primary School in Meltham, West Yorkshire was looking for a multicoloured outdoor shelter to replace an old canopy that was no longer fit for purpose. It hoped to find a model with side panels and a roller shutter door, for convenience and extra protection from the elements. It was also important that it had a cheerful design that could be used for different purposes, like covered play, dining and learning outside. The staff chose us to supply their shelter because of our level of service and the help we provided as they explored options and pricing.

What was our canopy solution?

Meltham Moor Primary School looked at several different products, but eventually decided that the Motiva Linear™ was the right one for them. It has a range of applications and many possibilities for fun customisation, so it was a fantastic choice. We worked with the institution’s representatives to personalise it to their tastes and requirements, and added a roller shutter door and side panels. This meant that the canopy would create a great space in which to spend time during every month of the year, because it would have no problem keeping out the rain. What’s more, we built it with Ultramarine Blue steelwork and a multicoloured roof that made the area look joyful and fun, as well as with specifications of 7000mm X 4000mm.

What was the result of the new shelter?

The outdoor canopy has really done its job at Meltham Moor Primary School; the pupils now have a new area where they can enjoy some fresh air while doing different activities, in any weather. The colourful design makes it a welcoming place for play or dining, and it can even be used as an outdoor classroom shelter. The canopy structure is a wonderful replacement for the school’s old model and the addition of the side panels makes it a complete and practical facility. We were thrilled that the shelter fit the bill and that it has helped our client to expand their horizons.

Why are shelters so useful for schools?

Children can benefit mentally, emotionally and physically from time outside, and canopies can allow them to enjoy this – even in the colder, darker and wetter winter months when they might otherwise be stuck inside. Lighting and heating can be installed to keep these facilities warm and bright, while providing the opportunity for outside play in any season. Doors and side panels can also be added for more protection from the elements, as well as strong and expansive roofs of different materials to meet clients’ specific needs.

Plus, shelters can make for fantastic learning spaces like outdoor classrooms that may encourage more engagement and interest, and open up new opportunities within the curriculum. The limit of their purposes is only your imagination, because many institutions utilise them for things like dining and essential storage too.
