What was the project brief?

Grŵp Cynefin and Denbighshire County Council needed three canopies to be built as part of their partnership project in Denbigh, Pentre Canol – a high-quality, extra care housing scheme for older people which would also feature some communal facilities. They wanted to provide the residents with covered walkways so they could move between the buildings outdoors in all seasons and be sheltered from the weather.

The team wanted the canopies to have strong, modern designs that were both effective in rain and wind and complemented the contemporary look of the site. As we created a covered walkway for their care home, Hafod Y Gest in Porthmadog, Grŵp Cynefin asked that we manufacture these shelters for them too. We were thrilled to complete another project for this client.

What was our canopy solution?

After discussing the benefits of the previous project with us, the team at Pentre Canol decided that our Motiva Linear™ would once again be the best shelter for the job. This model has an attractive asymmetric roof where one side is higher than the other, making it ideal for covered walkways. We designed three of these shelters and installed them right next to the buildings to immediately protect residents from the elements when heading outside. The Anthracite Grey steelwork and Opal roofs worked seamlessly with the architecture of the housing scheme and the polycarbonate and steel structures were more than up to the task of shielding anyone beneath from harsh weather, or even strong sunlight.

What was the result of the new covered walkways?

Everyone at Pentre Canol loves the set of the three canopies. They were an essential part of developing the new site and they ensure that the residents can enjoy the fresh air throughout the year. The covered walkways complete the clean, classy aesthetic and are wonderfully practical too, as now people can move between buildings outdoors with ease – even if it’s raining! We were pleased to have completed yet another successful project for Grŵp Cynefin, and we hope that the shelters continue to offer as many benefits for residents at Pentre Canol as those at Hafod Y Gest.

What other kinds of organisations can benefit from covered walkways?

Walkway shelter we manufactured for Wareham Recycling CentreMany types of businesses and organisations can find covered walkways useful. Large schools and universities with multiple buildings can install them to create a stronger sense of unity on-campus, which can be appealing to prospective attendees. Covered walkways can be excellent features at garden centres with extensive outdoor areas, as they allow customers to peruse plants and products which have to be kept outdoors, even in bad weather. Plus, other businesses with outside spaces can use these shelters to protect their pathways by preventing moss from growing, which can also reduce accidents.
