What was the project brief?

The King’s School in Macclesfield, Cheshire wanted to add two covered walkways to their fantastic facilities to shield pupils walking outdoors between buildings and classrooms from the rainy British weather. They needed to complement their modern architecture and be long enough to provide adequate coverage. A&S Landscape was thrilled to be contacted by this institution and endeavoured to offer them a brilliant solution from their selection of canopies.

What was our covered walkway solution?

Following detailed discussions about the shelter options, The King’s School in Macclesfield settled on the popular Motiva Linear™. They requested that the first of their canopies be built to measure 54630mm X 3000mm and the second to 41210mm X 3000mm, which would provide a great deal of covered space for busy students making their way to lessons in the rain or wind. This monopitch (asymmetric) straight roof variant model is ideal for walkways, and its solid steel design with a Dura-coat™ finish allows it to maintain its excellent quality for many years. And, when searching for the right colour combination, simplicity was at the front of the school’s mind. They chose Opal polycarbonate roofs and Squirrel Grey steelwork which matched the existing architecture and looked both modern and stylish. A&S Landscape thought that this was an excellent decision and that the classic feel reflected the institution’s long history.

What was the result of their new canopies?

The pupils and staff at The King’s School in Macclesfield were delighted with their new pair of covered walkways. Students now don’t have to worry about getting wet when travelling to their next lessons, as the shelters offer fantastic protection from the rain. The Opal roofs bring even more brightness to the outdoor areas and the school was very happy with their choice of model.

About the client

The King’s School in Macclesfield is an independent school that teaches children aged from just three, all the way up to eighteen years old. They operate within three smaller divisions to accommodate this wide range of students and are proud of their history which stretches back for more than five centuries.
