What was the project brief?

bespoke dining shelter sharples schoolSharples School in Bolton was looking for a bespoke dining canopy that could help make break times and lunchtimes easier for students and extend its facilities outdoors. They wanted it to have glass panels to increase the protection it could provide from the unpredictable British weather, as well as have a modern design that reflected their values. The staff visited our website and loved our previous bespoke canopy work, so they contacted us to take on this exciting project.

What was our bespoke dining canopy solution?

For a product that could create their perfect custom canopy, the natural choice for Sharples School was a bespoke Motiva Duo™. Bespoke models can diverge from regular designs and be made to specific requirements, and installing one is a fantastic way of adding a truly special new facility to your school. Plus, the Motiva Duo™ has a curved roof that both looks aesthetically pleasing and means that those beneath it don’t have to worry about the rain. The team decided to have their shelter installed with glass panels to keep out the wind when children were eating outdoors, and Slate Grey steelwork and an Opal roof made for an appealing, contemporary look.

What was the result of the new shelter?

The bespoke dining canopy has benefited students and staff alike at Sharples School. They now have an amazing new area outdoors where they can eat, relax, and catch up with friends and colleagues all year round. What’s more, it could be used in other ways – including as an outdoor classroom shelter that would help to fit even more time in the fresh air into everyone’s school day. Lunchtimes are a simpler affair as students can choose to eat beneath the new dining shelter or in existing facilities. We were thrilled that the school was as impressed with their completed canopy as with the projects they saw on our website.

What other types of canopy can benefit secondary schools?

Covered MUGA at Zaytouna Primary SchoolThere are many different shelters that can be useful to schools with students of an older age range. Here are just a few that you might like to consider adding to your institution.

1. Shade sails

These striking shelters are fantastic at bringing colourful focal points to outdoor spaces and adding character to architecture. Shade sails work well as covered relaxation areas and the myriad of colours they are available in means they can suit any institution’s site and branding.

2. Entrance canopies

Installing a shelter at the entrance of a school can keep valued visitors out of the rain and aid them in finding the way in to the building. They act as effective yet unobtrusive signposts and they can be adapted to suit any entrance.

3. Covered MUGA

Covered Multi Use Games Areas offer year-round protection from the elements to students playing anything from football to hockey and cricket to archery. These extensive facilities give a boost to the physical education of all the children at your school as they allow more of them to enjoy a wider range of sports. Also, Covered MUGA™ can even be used as valuable, additional exam spaces.
