What was the project brief?

St Asaph Police Station, part of North Wales Police in Bodelwyddan, was looking for a shade sail with multiple sails to create a relaxing wellbeing area where staff could rest and recuperate in all weathers. It was important that it had extensive coverage so people didn’t have to worry about a lack of space and that it could shield several benches when placed beneath it. Also, the team wanted it to come with a simple colour scheme to enhance the calm atmosphere of the new space. It was a pleasure to bring their vision to life at A&S Landscape and help them continue to ‘play an important role in supporting and protecting all sections of the community’.

What was our shade sail solution?

We talked through the different aspects of the ideal model with representatives from the police station, and they settled on a Maxima Sail™. Given that they needed a product with large coverage, this was a natural choice since the Maxima Sail™ can be built in various configurations and sizes. We installed this particular canopy with four sails on a total of nine uprights, providing shelter for many people at once whether it was a bright spring morning or a rainy afternoon in autumn. Plus, an Aluminium roof worked excellently with Squirrel Grey steelwork as a neutral structure that wasn’t visually distracting and could make more opportunities on-site to improve staff mental health.

What was the result of the shelter?

Our Welsh client loves this canopy with its sweeping, four-sail design. Adding it to the outdoor facilities has enabled the team to create a relaxing wellbeing area for their hard-working staff, and the grey colours are the perfect, unobtrusive background for personal reflection and a lovely contrast in the natural green space there. They have been able to place several benches under the shade sail, so now many people can sit and enjoy recuperating in the fresh air throughout the year without wanting more room. This was a fantastic addition to our portfolio and we hope that our product will be of continued great benefit to this essential workforce.

What do I need to know about A&S Landscape?

Our story began with a father and son team over forty years ago, making connections with local schools, authorities and builders and working on external built environment schemes. From simpler shelters in Telford back in 1976, we have grown to supply a huge range of canopies to customers across Europe – including our very own Maxima™, Motiva™ and Cyclo™ brands.

What’s more, we have adapted our models to suit the needs of a vast and ever-growing client list. We have installed playground shelters at schools all over the UK to make wet break times a thing of the past, ambulance canopies at healthcare sites to make patients’ arrival experiences easier in bad weather, and dining shelters at commercial facilities so staff or customers can enjoy eating in the fresh air daily.
