What was the project?

Salisbury Primary School Colourful ShelterTo install a colourful straight polycarbonate roof canopy at Salisbury Primary School in Walsall.

What was the problem?

The children at Salisbury Primary School love to let off steam on their breaks and were beginning to get a little cross that the rainy days seemed much more frequent than the sunny ones! The staff had been considering transforming their outdoor area for some time and after hearing a glowing review from another local school they contacted the team at A&S Landscape to put together some options for them. They wanted a sturdy and robust shelter that would brighten up the whole area and provide optimum protection from the heat of the sun and the all-too-common rain.

What was our solution?

As soon as we learnt more about the school’s requirements we immediately thought that our Motiva Linear ™ may be just what they were looking for! With an Opal polycarbonate roof as standard, this much-loved straight roof canopy also comes with the option of a rainbow-coloured roof! We love nothing more than installing these ever cheerful and vibrant canopies and were even more delighted that we would be working with a local school.

Without further ado, the team at A&S Landscape got to work on the sketching and the positioning to provide the school with a visual example of how the canopy could transform their outdoor area.

What product did we use?

The Motiva Linear ™ is one of our most popular designs, effortlessly simple and unbelievably robust, the structure offers all year round protection with a treasure trove of choices in relation to colours, the roof and even side and door options. Working equally as well next to the building or in the middle of the playground, the option to add bright and cheerful post protector pads means that pupils of all ages are protected should play get a little too boisterous.

What was the result?

The canopy looks amazing! The stunning rainbow roof adds colour and cheer even on the most miserable of days. The addition of a panel to one end means that the wind is kept at bay no matter how much it howls, and the children are equally as delighted to hear the pitter patter of raindrops on their bright and shiny roof or play hopscotch on the rainbow that lights up the ground when the sun comes out to play.

A little bit about the client…

Salisbury Primary School aims to be a ‘value based, inclusive school at the heart of a culturally diverse community’. Staff, Governors and the children that attend are proud that their school is a very special place. A school that nurtures its pupils and welcomes everyone.

The team at A&S worked closely with the Early Years Leader to bring this project to life, her passion for her role and her vision for the school was a true inspiration and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

Why are canopies perfect for primary schools?

Playground canopy we made for Bickleigh Down Primary SchoolStarting school for the first time is a huge step for many children, suddenly being surrounded by their peers with all manner of new things to learn can be a little bit daunting, to say the least.

It is therefore very important for them to have somewhere safe to play, to run off the stresses of the day and to make new friends. Having a sheltered outdoor space has been proven to play a key role in their development with schools now taking this even further and offering outdoor lessons to promote wellbeing and a more sensory experience for their pupils. We have recently even been involved in installing canopies next to nature reserves to provide essential shelter whilst watching the great outdoors flutter to life.

Here at A&S Landscape, we understand that no two schools are the same, and every pupil is different. With that in mind, we are proud to have developed an extensive range of canopies and shelter solutions, especially for primary schools.

Whether you are considering a breezy and airy fabric canopy to add a cheerful pocket of shelter on your school playground or would like to add some extra dry storage facilities whilst still giving pupils a place to play, our canopies and shade sails have got you covered.

We recommend early involvement to get your project off the ground and would love to work on some options for your school. Our technical team are always on hand to take a look at the area you would like to develop and our design team love nothing more than getting their metaphorical paintbrushes busy, with a whole host of colours to choose from. We would be glad to hear from you.
