What was the project brief?

Royal Mail Middleton in Middleton, Greater Manchester wanted to find the right entrance canopy for their building. They needed it to bring more colour to the area, as well as protect anyone standing beneath from wet weather when getting fresh air on their breaks from working at the delivery office.

A&S Landscape was thrilled to be contacted by the company and worked closely with them to meet their shelter needs.

What was our solution?

A&S Landscape had previously worked with Royal Mail on a different project, having built a Maxima StarSail™ at Royal Mail in Warrington, Cheshire. The success of this covered outdoor area – which allowed staff to reap the benefits of spending more breaks outside – gave the Middleton branch confidence that A&S Landscape was the right business to provide them with their canopy.

There was a fantastic range of shelters to choose from – with everything from roof style to size to consider – but Royal Mail Middleton eventually decided that the Motiva Mono™ was the best model for them. A&S Landscape installed a custom canopy with measurements of 5000mm X 2500mm, offering space for several members of staff to enjoy time outside on their breaks while being protected from the rain and wind. This particular product has a monopitch (asymmetric) curved roof, where one side is higher than the other. This means that it works brilliantly when adjoining buildings, such as in this case. The team at the delivery office chose Traffic Red steelwork and an Opal roof, which added colour to the area and matched the company’s branding. Also, the entrance canopy sported a Dura-coat™ colour finish and Alu-Tuff™ guttering, so Royal Mail Middleton could be assured that their new facility would offer them excellent shelter for years to come.

What was the result of the new entrance canopy?

The staff love the shelter and the way it brightens up the outdoor space at the delivery office. They can now get fresh air during their work shifts, even on rainy days. This installation was an excellent example of how entrance canopies can add value to organisations’ facilities. A&S Landscape was pleased that the project was so well-received and would aid wellbeing, and look forward to hopefully working with Royal Mail again in the future.

Testimonial

Which types of commercial businesses can benefit from shelters?

Walkway canopy at Wareham Recycling CentreOrganisations across the commercial sector can get great use out of canopies. Here are just a few examples and the kinds of canopy they might consider.

  1. Delivery depots – shelters to cover depot loading bays can help to keep both valuable products and staff safe and dry.
  2. Retail parks – these usually have plenty of parking bays, and sheltering customers from wet weather in such areas can add value to a business.
  3. Factories – large facilities often come with large numbers of employees, so factories can benefit from installing canopies over outdoor dining or smoking areas to create additional break spaces where staff can enjoy fresh air in any weather. Benches can be placed underneath them to extend seating capacity and reduce pressure on indoor facilities.

It’s safe to say that shelters have a wide range of commercial sector applications and many organisations have need of them. Whether you represent an industrial estate, retail business or county council, A&S Landscape has the product for you.
