What was the project brief?

Platt Church of England Primary School in St Mary’s Platt, Kent wanted two shade sails to provide some much-needed outdoor shelter for its pupils. They needed to be bright and colourful to inspire cheer on even the greyest of days, and able to protect the children from UV rays and rain so they could play outside in all seasons. The staff also thought it would be a good idea for the canopies to come with post protector pads, to ensure pupils stayed safe while spending time beneath them. They got in touch with A&S Landscape, who immediately started figuring out how to offer the school the best shelter solution.

What was our canopy solution?

We discussed the various models at length with Platt Church of England Primary School, as we wanted to use our expertise to help them to make the right decision. They eventually decided on the Maxima Sail™, an economical shade sail that is available in countless colours, configurations and shapes – perfect for a school looking to inject more visual interest into its outdoor spaces. The two fabric canopies were ideal for keeping the children out of the sun and rain when they were playing or learning in the fresh air. Plus, Slate Grey steelwork and Lime Fizz roofs created exciting pops of colour in the school grounds that made them look more joyful, and this would surely pass on to the pupils! The shelters were installed with specifications of 6000mm X 4000mm to allow many children to enjoy them at once and eight post protector pads to reduce the risk of accidents outdoors.

What was the result of the new shade sails?

The pair of canopies look fantastic at Platt Church of England Primary School and the team there were pleased with the result. The fun, colourful designs of the shade sails have transformed the outside area and they inspire creativity and positivity when pupils are playing with friends beneath them. And, they don’t just look the part; they do their job too, as they offer excellent shelter in all sorts of weather so the children can get out in the fresh air more often in their school day. The shelters could even be used as outdoor classrooms to diversify the teachers’ lesson plans. We were thrilled with how this project went and are glad that everyone at Platt Church of England Primary School is getting such fantastic use out of the canopies.
