Ethelbert Road Primary School add Yellow School Canopy in Faversham

This lovely school in Faversham Kent, Ethelbert Road Primary, approached A&S Landscape to help them add a canopy to their playground. They wanted a large covered space which the children could use throughout the year when they needed shade or shelter from the elements. We were very happy to come up with a solution. We chose a Duo canopy from our Motiva range. These canopies are made from steel and polycarbonate and the steel can be in a colour of your choice. Ethelbert Road Primary chose Bright Yellow and we have to say, it looks fantastic! We also installed another canopy in Kent, at East Kent College LLD Building and at Saint Nicholas of Wade C of E School.

A&S Landscape can install canopies either during school holidays or in term time. Our teams are dedicated, experienced and have all the required permissions to work with schools across the country. Our range of canopies includes both fabric and well as steel and polycarbonate canopies. Other products include the Umbrella, Tepee, StarSail and MUGA.

If you are considering a project like this we would be delighted to talk through some ideas with you or come up with some design options. We have undertaken many bespoke projects in addition to the standard products that we offer, so we are confident that we can deliver just the right thing.

The benefits of playing outside on young children and why we need to encourage more children to do so

Multiple studies confirm that children’s outdoor play is pivotal for their healthy development and academic performance. This subject identifies the benefits of outdoor play in early childhood on physical health, mental well-being, and social and cognitive development. It also flags the need to change the trends so that children can have daily access to outdoor play. The long-term interventions necessary to reduce parents’ fears require practitioners’ training, policy changes and improved urban planning for safer environments and natural play spaces. That is an enormous goal that will take a number of years to implement. Nonetheless, there are ways that schools can intervene, to help children in attaining their essential repeated experience of high quality unstructured outdoor play opportunities, which will support their development and academic performance.

Continue reading to find out why outdoor play is so fundamental for child development, why it is declining and how schools can help.
