What was the project brief?

The students at Ashton on Mersey School in Sale, Cheshire didn’t have any shelter while waiting outside of the school buildings. The staff there wanted to solve this problem by sourcing a pair of sturdy, durable canopies to provide protection in wet weather as a designated area where the children could gather at times such as entering and leaving classes. A&S Landscape had some creative ideas on how to help this institution.

What were our shelter solutions?

Freestanding canopy we installed at Ashton on Mersey SchoolAshton on Mersey School decided to have two different models of canopy installed, as there were so many effective options available. They chose a 3500mm X 1500mm straight roof Motiva Cantilever™, due to its reliable solid steel framework and practical polycarbonate roofing which could stand the test of time and protect anyone waiting beneath it. This model is incredibly adaptable; it can be installed in Mono, Duo, Linear or Wave designs. For the second shelter, the team decided on a Motiva Linear™ with a stylish monopitch asymmetric roof that would offer maximum coverage and keep out the rain. The impressive 13500mm X 6000mm specifications meant that it was ideal for creating a covered waiting area that would shelter many students. Ashton on Mersey School also combined Slate Grey steelwork and Opal roofs in their canopy designs, which looked fantastic alongside the existing buildings.

What was the result of the new pair of shelters?

The two waiting area canopies were welcome additions to Ashton on Mersey School’s facilities. Students can now stay undercover in long-lasting, designated spaces during wet or windy weather when waiting to enter or leave the buildings. These models also show how versatile shelters can be for secondary schools, because they could easily have further applications, like encouraging outdoor classroom ideas. The canopies complement the institution’s architecture and help it stand out as an excellent education provider among the local competition. A&S Landscape is happy that their products are making life easier for the students, especially for social distancing during the pandemic.

What are cantilever canopies?

Shelter we installed at Horsham Football ClubWhen purchasing a shelter, there is a whole range of products to consider. The cantilever is a great option for many schools and businesses because it is supported with uprights along a single side of its structure, which maximises the amount of covered space it can create. It is also highly customisable, as it can be installed with a straight or curved roof and clients can choose from a variety of colours and designs.

If you want to place your shelter in front of doors or windows, cantilever shelters avoid obstructions, thanks to their reduced uprights. Their simple, safe design means that they work well in playgrounds and they are a clean addition to existing architecture. Plus, they can make for stylish outdoor classroom buildings or covered walkways in a range of settings. Want to know more about this type of shelter?
