What was the project brief?

Willerby Parish Council Playpark in Willerby wanted a shade sail to create a sheltered area for children visiting the park and their families. It needed to offer effective protection in rain or wind and relief in the summer sun, be a safe structure for youngsters to play around, and have a bright, exciting design to encourage a cheerful atmosphere. The council contacted us about fulfilling this brief and we knew exactly how to make it a reality.

What was our shade sail solution?

We discussed the benefits of several different models with Willerby Parish Council and this led to them choosing to install a Maxima StarSail™ at the playpark. With a fun, trendy design that combines the look of a shade sail and an umbrella canopy, we thoroughly approved of this decision. The team also picked out Signal Yellow steelwork and a Victoria Blue fabric roof; these contrasting colours made the shade sail an eye-catching feature that inspired positivity. The addition of a post protector pad also made sure that children would stay safe while enjoying their time in the park, and the 5000mm X 5000mm canopy specifications were large enough to shield families in all sorts of weather.

What was the result of the shelter?

The new shade sail looks fantastic in the Willerby Parish Council Playpark – like it’s always been there, offering relief from the elements for any family spending some quality time together. The fabric roof does an excellent job of keeping people cool in the sun and dry in the rain, and the colourful design does wonders for the mood of children and adults alike. We were glad to hear that the canopy was a hit at the playpark and that it will help local people to make the most of the facility throughout the year.

Testimonial

“We cannot thank A&S Landscape enough for all of their help with this project. They have been an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish. We would also like to thank the contractors that fitted the structure and the sail. The structure was fitted in terrible weather, they did a fantastic job and kept us updated every step of the way. We would definitely recommend A&S Landscape to others and would have no hesitation in using them again in the future. Huge thanks to the team – you’ve been amazing.”

How can parks, public spaces and their visitors benefit from shelters?

Shade sail we fitted at Ashcott Playing FieldsOutdoor facilities are essential for boosting our wellbeing, so businesses and council owners need to ensure they are accessible all year round. Adding canopies is a simple way to achieve this. Shade sails can shelter vulnerable members of the public from UV rays in the summer as a sun shade and keep families out of the rain in the winter, while dining canopies can allow visitors to enjoy snacks or lunch on-site in all seasons. What’s more, entrance shelters can help people new to these public spaces to easily locate the ways in to buildings like cafés.

Are you thinking about installing a canopy in your park or public space? Our products will make sure that local people can enjoy your facilities in the outdoors without worrying about the unpredictable British weather.
