Will this help them to grow? Will this create more dynamic social space? Woolston Infant School chose A&S Landscape to install one of our Maxima Shade Sails in their playground. It was important that this structure provided quality protection from direct sunlight but also offered something fun, playful and imaginative.

We installed this Maxima Shade Sail in a smart black steelwork (RAL 9005) with cherry red fabric, meaning it looks striking but also mirrors colours found in the nearby buildings meaning it looks like it was always there!

One of the real benefits of the Maxima Shade Sail is the lack of hard lines. It means that when students step outside into nature, the shade sail waiting for them mirrors the elegant, free-flowing lines of the world around it.

How playing outdoors can benefit school children with their development and how we can help them to spend more time outside

Multiple studies recognise that children’s outdoor play is key for their healthy development and academic performance. This subject spotlights the benefits of outdoor play in early childhood on physical health, mental well-being, and social and cognitive development. It also reveals the need to change the trends so that children can have regular access to outdoor play. The prolonged interventions necessary to reduce parents’ fears need practitioners’ training, policy changes and improved urban planning for safer environments and natural play spaces. That is a massive aim that will take multiple years to implement.
