What was the project brief?

Oakfield Primary School in Cardiff, Glamorgan wanted to add a shelter to their facilities to benefit their pupils and adapt to their needs throughout the year. It was needed to create a covered space that could function as an outdoor play area, storage area and more, and it had to be able to offer protection from the elements for anyone or anything beneath it.

The school got in touch with A&S Landscape to see how they could help, and the company was delighted to share their personalised ideas and shelter solutions.

What was our canopy solution?

There were many different models to consider, but Oakfield Primary School finally decided on the Motiva Linear™. The staff loved the variety of colour combinations available, and they picked out red steelwork and clear polycarbonate to create a bright structure that reflected the enthusiasm of their institution. The Motiva Linear™ was a fantastic choice to shield pupils from the elements, as it is both snow-safe and wind-safe, and has a durable monopitch roof. This canopy is very popular with schools because it can suit a range of needs. A&S Landscape installed this particular model with glazing to keep the rain out, and 9900mm X 4000mm specifications to provide plenty of space for storage, play and more.

What was the result of their new shelter?

Oakfield Primary School was thrilled with the outdoor canopy; it offers great protection from the unpredictable British weather. It can be used as an extra storage area at the weekends and holidays, a playground shelter so their pupils can get fresh air at break times even if it’s raining, or an outdoor classroom gazebo to bring a novel environment to lessons. The children love the vivid colours, and the staff were so impressed that A&S Landscape returned to add a matching canopy just a few months later! The company is pleased that their shelter will bring a fun new element to the school days of this important part of the Cardiff community.
