Shade sail we installed at Malpas Alport SchoolThe lovely new school building has a large outdoor area for the younger children specifically. To make sure that they could use this space for as much of the year as possible, the school wanted to add some shelter.

They chose a shade sail canopy from our Maxima range, which complements the new build perfectly. The modern design of two square sails has created a covered area of 12000mm x 6000mm.

The two sails were installed onto six metal posts in Grey (RAL 7000). The fabric sails were PVC, which offers UV protection as well as shelter from the rain. These look very smart in Midnight Blue, matching the school branding!

The end result sets off the school beautifully as it can be seen from the road. The children are pleased to be able to go outside as often as possible, no matter what the weather has to offer. A great looking canopy which adds to a fantastic programme of works at Malpas Alport Primary School.

“Looks striking from the road, lovely – we’re very happy.”

How Does Learning Outside Positively Effect Children and What Can Schools Do to Help Classes Learn Outdoors

There are a wealth of benefits of learning outside which help school children as well as teaching staff. A component that is generally forgotten is the teacher’s satisfaction of teaching lessons and how the possibility to teach outside can be just as inspiring for them as it is for pupils. Being in an outdoor surrounding is healthy and breeds positivity for teachers which is commonly emulated in their lessons and the way they teach. If a teacher is uninspired, that loss of passion can carry over into their lessons but putting them in contact with nature can effectively change the way they think about teaching.

To see images of our projects you can take a look at our gallery for some inspiration. We also have a Motiva range of canopies which are steel with polycarbonate roofing. These add another option should you want something other than fabric. And get inspiration for your canopy design by downloading our Primary Covered Area Inspiration Brochure.
