What was the project brief?

Hartsdown Academy in Margate, Kent wanted to source an impressive dining canopy that could help it to successfully and comfortably accommodate its increased student intake in the new school year. They hoped to find a model with style and elegance that its community would love to spend time under and could also cover large groups of people at once so no-one would feel unable to enjoy eating outdoors in bad weather. The institution – which prides itself on being ‘a small school where every child is known by name, where teachers know the children’ – got in touch with us at A&S Landscape and we were thrilled to build a canopy that worked for them.

What was our shelter solution?

We discussed ideas and needs at length with our client, and the result was that we supplied them with a Motiva Duo™. This product from our shelter range has a symmetric curved roof which has excellent visual appeal, and we built this particular model to specifications of 16000mm X 6000mm to ensure that it could protect many people from the elements at once. Plus, an Opal and Slate Grey colour scheme gave the canopy a classy feel that was bound to be of great attraction to staff, students and visitors, and the robust nature of the structure meant that it was fit to become an outdoor dining area.

What was the result of the new canopy?

Everyone at the school loves the dining shelter; it has made the expanded student intake easier to manage because there is now more room for youngsters to eat and socialise at breaktimes, and they have the fantastic choice of being able to dine in the fresh air – even in the rain. The canopy has transformed the area and made it a more pleasant place, and its large measurements could also lend it to other purposes like creating an outdoor learning space. It was a pleasure to offer our customer a tailored solution to their problem that has had added benefits for their facility.
