What was the project brief?

Green Park School had the idea to add two shelters to their facilities to allow their students to spend more time outside, no matter the weather. They needed them to have stylish designs, offer maximum coverage and be robust enough to last for years to come. A&S Landscape was thrilled to be contacted by this institution and endeavoured to find a pair of canopies that would meet and exceed all of their expectations.

What was our canopy solution?

Freestanding shelter we built at Green Park Primary SchoolFollowing discussions about their needs and their vision for the shelters, Green Park School picked out the Maxima StarSail™ model. It attracted them because of its spectacular, innovative design which combines the benefits of several products, as well as its durability and lengthy guarantees. Each built to specifications of 7000mm X 7000mm, the two shade sails provided plenty of protection for the children from sun and rain, and their versatility meant that they could be used at playtimes, lunchtimes, for outdoor learning or even for shielding waiting parents from the elements. The staff also chose Squirrel Grey steelwork and Champagne fabric roofs to create a modern, attractive design that complemented the school’s existing architecture.

What was the result of the new shade sails?

The pupils think that the canopies are fantastic; they give them the opportunity to enjoy much more time outside throughout the year, which is really beneficial to everyone’s wellbeing and learning experience. The matching shelters make an appealing statement in the school grounds and show how much these products can improve institutions’ facilities. A&S Landscape was happy to hear that the shade sails and canopy installation were so well-received by both the staff and children and that they will get such great use out of them.

How do you look after shade sails?

Shade sail we designed for Glenwood SchoolIf you’re thinking about installing a shade sail at your school or business, you might be wondering how much effort it takes to maintain one and how you can extend its lifespan. The answers are simple: not much and with some sensible care!

The best and safest way to clean a shade sail is with a mild detergent, a soft brush and a low-pressure water hose. You might not even notice the fabric getting dirty from the underside, so check its condition when you can. You should avoid abrasive cleaners and getting the material in contact with chemicals because they could damage the canopy! All you need to do is simply remove any built-up areas of dirt to experience improved brightness as the light streams through. Fabric shelters are durable, attractive and versatile, but it’s essential to look after them so you can enjoy them for longer. Therefore, take them down in the winter and store them somewhere secure and dry. Looking after your shade sail will keep it looking its best all year round and will let you spend more time outside beneath it for years to come.
