Godalming College add Umbrella Canopies in Surrey

Godalming College is a modern learning community in Surrey. During some renovations, one of the school buildings was removed altogether, leaving a large space which needed a new purpose. So now, where an old school building once stood, they have created a smart new covered seating area.

Project Specification

The new courtyard area has been enhanced by two large 6m x 6m Maxima Umbrella shades and picnic bench seating. This space has been re-purposed brilliantly. The white steelwork in RAL 9010 contrasts beautifully with the Buttercup PVC fabric which the college has chosen. With our PVC fabric range, you can create shade and shelter from the sun as well as the wet weather, all year round. With a full range of colours available we are sure to have something that would look great on your site. You can see our full colour range of steel and fabric here. More colours are available, so if you don’t see something you like, please ask.

Why schools are using canopies to expand their provisions during a period of rising intake numbers

The Department for Education has the challenge to create the 420,000 new school places that are required between 2016 and 2021 and there are a lot of ways that this can be achieved. New schools are being produced, free schools are being funded and existent schools are obtaining capital funding to support, enhance and enlarge facilities. With capital being strained, one way that schools are using this capital funding is to make the most of their outside space. Whether to build extra classrooms or to add sheltered spaces which can have a lot of different uses.

Some uses of outdoor sheltered areas include:

• External dining areas

• All-weather sports pitches

• Outdoor classroom

• Cycle Storage

• Outdoor theatre

The students are delighted with their new seating area, using it for socialising, dining and perhaps even some outdoor studying!
