Entrance Canopy at DMS Chromium Plating Ltd Kidderminster
Dunstall Hill Primary School in Wolverhampton asked A&S Landscape to help them add some sheltered space to the playground. The requirement was a covered area for students to dine within the playground.
A canopy area with seating that would be in keeping with the style of the campus. We were happy to help and soon began to discuss the available options.
A&S Landscape has been worked to transform outdoor areas for more than 40 years. We can offer a wide range of products; Umbrellas, Tepees, and Linear canopies, right through to multi use games areas. In this instance, the Maxima Sail with waterproof fabric was chosen. Using this fabric meant that the canopy offered shelter from sunshine as well as rain. Two square shade sails were installed at 5000mmm x 5000mm on curved uprights, to create the covered area. Wooden dining tables were added and the space was complete.
There is a lot of research that emphasises the benefits of spending time outdoors; easing heart rate, blood pressure, stress hormones and muscle tension. It can even boost your mood. Developments in attention, memory and concentration have also been proven.
Spending time outdoors boosts Vitamin D levels (an important hormone that helps to protect against a series of diseases such as osteoporosis, depression, heart attacks and stroke). It is shown in research that many of us do not get a sufficient amount of this important vitamin, so more time outside is pivotal to help deal with this deficiency.
With the longest break in the school day being the lunch break, a good resolution is alfresco dining. More and more schools are developing their outdoor areas, adding outdoor dining spaces, with canopies, shade sails, umbrellas and even enclosed outdoor dining rooms. With soaring pupil numbers, this is a solution to the increased pressure that existing dining rooms come under as schools grow.
Continue reading our blog post to discover how schools can resolve this problem and encourage their pupils to spend more time outside.
