What was the project brief?

David Lloyd Brighton in Sussex Adds Outdoor Gym CanopyDavid Lloyd Brighton in Brighton needed a canopy to cover a new workout area outside their facility where they were going to install some outdoor gym equipment. The staff there wanted the shelter to offer excellent coverage in rain or shine, so the weather wouldn’t dictate whether customers could enjoy exercising in the fresh air. They hoped for a simple, appealing design that matched the look of their buildings and also provided enough space for multiple people and pieces of equipment to be sheltered beneath it. We were excited when David Lloyd Brighton approached us to carry out this project.

What was our outdoor shelter solution?

Our popular Motiva Linear™ was the winning model to create our client’s outdoor gym canopy. It worked well with their brief because it’s able to accommodate many different design features and it’s an ideal model to be placed directly next to a building, which was what David Lloyd Brighton wanted. They chose an Opal polycarbonate roof and sleek, Slate Grey steelwork that effectively blended into the existing exterior of the site. What’s more, 5500mm X 4600mm measurements were plentiful to protect a set of workout equipment and customers keeping up their fitness levels from the elements.

What was the result of the canopy?

David Lloyd Brighton thinks that the outdoor gym shelter is a significant asset to its business. It enables more customers to use the site’s facilities and presents an opportunity for them to keep cool in the fresh seaside air while exercising on the equipment. The unobtrusive but stylish, straight roof design suited the team’s ideas for the project, extends their branding outside and is a natural extension of the building. This project shows how effective canopies can be at improving commercial clients’ offerings to their customers and allowing them to expand their facilities in new ways.

About the client

David Lloyd Brighton is a club full to the brim with facilities. It has a modern gym, a spa and a swimming pool, and it holds both group exercise classes and DL Kids activities. It also has a food and drinks menu created by chefs, nutritionists and fitness experts, plus an adults-only space where members can socialise with a friend, relax or even quietly catch up on some work. The staff were very welcoming to us and we hope that our outdoor gym canopy helps them to continue their focus on customer satisfaction.

This client is based in Brighton, a city in the heart of Sussex. It is known as a diverse city with a love of culture so it has plenty of art and entertainment on offer, as well as being in a UNESCO World Biosphere Region and bordering the beautiful South Downs National Park. This is somewhere where everyone is welcome to enjoy themselves.

What other kinds of commercial sites can benefit from canopies?

We have supplied shelters to many kinds of businesses over the years which have made use of them in different ways. Though varied in the required product and design, many people find that they greatly benefit their customers and staff.

Covered walkways can be particularly helpful outside these shopping destinations, as the shelters can connect multiple units in wet weather and make retail therapy more enjoyable for customers enjoying their leisure time. What’s more, a cycle shelter can give employees a secure place to store their bikes while they work.

Factories

Factories often have extensive workforces that business owners need to look after and improve or develop their facilities for. Installing a dining canopy or two can have great mental health benefits for staff because they let them eat lunch and socialise outdoors throughout the year.

Delivery depots

Shelters to cover parking areas or loading bays can be invaluable at delivery depots since they keep both drivers and their cargo dry in the rain. These sites can also benefit from entrance canopies which help visitors find the way in and protect them while they make smaller deliveries.
