Project Specification

What was the project brief?

Bettws Flying Start Playgroup in Bettws, Wales wanted to install a canopy to allow the children attending to spend more time in the fresh air all year round. It needed to have an attractive design, be safe, provide excellent protection from the unpredictable Welsh weather and have a variety of applications such as being used for play and dining. The playgroup team contacted A&S Landscape, who had a wide range of quality products to suit their needs.

What was our canopy solution?

Blue shelter we designed for Bettws Flying Start PlaygroupFollowing talks about what they wanted in a canopy, Bettws Flying Start Playgroup chose to have a Motiva Duo™ installed. This model appealed to the staff because of its duopitch symmetric roof and suitability for standalone structures, meaning it had high versatility. Built to measure 7000mm X 4000mm, the shelter offered plenty of space for youngsters to play or eat beneath it. It also sported blue steelwork and an opal roof, which looked modern and colourful in the outdoor area, as well as blue post pads to ensure it was safe when children were running around. The polycarbonate and steel construction was reliable and long-lasting and would have no trouble keeping out the wind and rain.

What was the result of the new shelter?

Bettws Flying Start Playgroup adores the outdoor canopy. The children can now enjoy playtimes and lunchtimes outside in all weathers, and the bright design with its clever curved roof brings more colour and architectural interest to the playgroup’s buildings. A&S Landscape was thrilled that the children and staff at the playgroup were so pleased with the custom canopy and hopes that it will open up opportunities for everyone there.

What should you think about when deciding on a canopy?

Outdoor dining canopy we designed for Oasis Academy CoulsdonThere are lots of aspects to consider when coming up with your perfect shelter and it’s important to discuss them all with your team before making a proposal with a canopy company. These are just a few of the things you should decide on when starting your journey towards a shelter solution.

  1. Why do you need it?

Canopies can be incredibly versatile, but you should have some ideas about how yours will be used. Will it benefit you best as a covered area in the playground of your school to make wet playtimes a thing of the past? Or, what about as an entrance shelter to spruce up the way in to your business and protect visitors from the rain?

  1. What should it be made of?

Steel is the most popular material for the main structure, but there is lots of choice when it comes to shelter roofs. Shade cloth is strong and durable, while PVC fabric has a fantastic waterproof design that increases its lifespan. Also, polycarbonate works well as a sun shade while letting light stream safely through and there is a wide range of colours available.

  1. How should it look?

Shelters can be freestanding structures or be placed next to buildings while having straight or curved roofs, but which would suit your organisation? Colour is essential too and you can choose carefully to match your school’s or business’ colours. The options are endless, from subtle combinations like Slate Grey and Mint to vibrant designs such as Flame Red and Signal Yellow.

Once you’ve thought about these aspects, why not approach A&S Landscape to make your shelter a reality? We provide products to suit any requirements. Contact us today by email at [email protected].
