Walkway Canopy Installed at Camborne Redruth Community Hospital in Cornwall

One of Cornwall's most important healthcare facilities is Camborne Redruth Community Hospital. It provides both physical and mental health services, including outpatient clinics, stroke recovery, and a Minor Injury Unit. The hospital, which is located on Barncoose Terrace in Redruth, provides a variety of adult services, such as urgent care and rehabilitation, to patients in the local area. To better support its patients, staff, and visitors, the hospital needed a covered space. Frequent foot traffic between buildings left people exposed to harsh weather. The staff required a solution that would be safe, long-lasting, and appropriate for a busy NHS facility, in addition to providing weather protection.

Project Specification

Challenges

  • Lack of Shelter: There was no cover between entrances for patients, notably those with restricted mobility.
  • Busy Access Points: Due to high footfall, the structure to be installed had to be safe, low-maintenance, and easy to install with the least amount of disruption.
  • Weather Conditions: Because of Cornwall’s fluctuating weather, the hospital required durable materials that could withstand rain and wind.
  • Fit and Aesthetics: The hospital needed a canopy that blended in with the surrounding landscape and could be adapted to existing structures.

Our Solution

To meet the needs of Camborne Redruth Community Hospital, A&S Landscape supplied and installed a Motiva Linear™ canopy. This straight roof structure is perfect for installation against building elevations and worked well in the selected location.

The canopy’s Alu-Tuff™ guttering and downpipes offered superior drainage. To provide additional coverage and wind protection, polycarbonate panels were added to two elevations.

The Ultramarine Blue (RAL 5002) coating applied to the canopy steelwork gave it a polished appearance that blended well with the hospital’s surroundings. Opal polycarbonate, which lets in natural light while offering shade, was used for the roof panels. Throughout the process, the installation crew demonstrated flexibility and attention to detail by making adjustments on-site to guarantee the perfect fit.

Key Features and Materials

  • Structure: Dura-coat™ Ultramarine Blue (RAL 5002) coating on a solid steel frame for long-lasting protection.
  • Roofing: Opal polycarbonate panels provide UV protection and light transmission.
  • Sides: Two sides have polycarbonate panels for added wind and weather protection.
  • Drainage: For a neat look, Alu-Tuff™ guttering and downpipes are colour-matched to the steelwork.
  • Design: A straight, monopitch roof that facilitates easy wall installation and efficient water runoff.

Results

  • Improved Comfort: Patients and visitors can now comfortably enter and exit the main building without being afraid of the weather.
  • Reduced Exposure: Better protection is provided by the additional side panels, which block wind and rain.
  • Safer Access: People can walk between departments more safely thanks to the canopy’s clear, dry path.
  • Professional Look: The colour and finish enhance the hospital’s visual appeal by blending in nicely with the existing structural design.
  • Positive Experience: The canopy was completed with little disturbance and complied with NHS safety regulations.
