What was the project brief?

St Alphonsus RC Primary School in Stretford, Manchester wanted to install a shelter as part of works to create a larger nursery on its grounds. They needed something with a colourful look that would encourage play and creativity, a durable build that would keep out all kinds of unpleasant weather, and a versatile design that would allow the canopy to function as a playground shelter, outdoor classroom shelter, or whatever covered space the school needed. The staff contacted A&S Landscape, who was ready to take on this challenge and provide a fantastic, affordable solution.

What was our nursery shelter solution?

There were lots of different elements to consider when planning out this project but, after considering the various products available, St Alphonsus RC Primary School decided that the Motiva Linear™ was the right choice for its needs. This monopitch model has solid steel framework and a strong, straight roof design that has no trouble shielding people beneath it from rain or wind. Built to specifications of 13600mm X 3000mm, it was also large enough to accommodate many youngsters and staff at once – whether they were playing, learning or moving around the nursery building outdoors. The Gentian Blue steelwork and Opal roof lent a classic but bright feel to the architecture of the site and created a welcoming space for the children to enjoy spending time.

What was the result of the new canopy?

The nursery shelter is very popular at St Alphonsus RC Primary School; it has been an essential part of improvements to create a more extensive nursery, and the adaptability of the structure means that the children can now get outside for all sorts of reasons throughout the day! The straight roof design is attractive, works visually well with the existing buildings and is an effective form of shelter, while the colours bring the area to life. A&S Landscape was pleased that the team at the school had fallen in love with the canopy and wishes them good luck with the remainder of their work in expanding the nursery.
