Hessle High School in East Yorkshire Installs Dining Canopy

The new shelter was well-received by Hessle High School. It is a wonderful addition to the dining facilities that we previously installed, and it allows the students to have an even greater choice of places in which to spend their well-earned breaks with friends and food, outdoors and year-round.

Project Specification

What was the project brief?

Hessle High School in Hessle, East Yorkshire had the idea to source a dining shelter to cover its outdoor seating and offer a facility outside for students to use in any season. They wanted the model to come with some side panels to keep out the wind and a strong design that would convey a stylish feel. It also needed to provide good value for money. We had already built three shade sails for this institution to create a fantastic covered dining area, so we were naturally their first port of call when it came to a second project and a custom canopy.

What was our shelter solution?

After extensive consultation with those from Hessle High School, they selected a Motiva Linear™. This model is a firm favourite with our customers because of its durable build and aesthetically-pleasing asymmetric design. Side panels to the back elevation gave the dining shelter a more complete feel and would offer students more protection from the wind and rain, while the Opal roof would be a great sunshade. We added Moss Green steelwork too, which made for a classic yet understated look and an attractive area where the children could sit and eat lunch in the fresh air.

What was the result of the dining canopy?

The new shelter was well-received by Hessle High School. It is a wonderful addition to the dining facilities that we previously installed, and it allows the students to have an even greater choice of places in which to spend their well-earned breaks with friends and food, outdoors and year-round. The team there loved the dark green design and were happy with the cost of the structure versus the benefits it offered their community. Plus, it efficiently covered their outside seating so the area felt relaxing and far away from the routine of learning. We were pleased to add this successful project to our portfolio of dining shelters, especially as it developed our facilities at a past client’s site – due to their pre-existing tensile fabric canopies – and they gave us great feedback once again.

What are the benefits of dining canopies for children?

Large Outdoor Dining Area Canopy.Creating covered areas for dining at school can have a host of expected and unexpected positive effects on students and staff. They can relieve pressure on existing facilities such as canteens, cafeterias and dining halls, so everyone has more room to eat and so their breaks are more enjoyable as they don’t have to queue for as long because people are spread between multiple areas. Also, they allow children to dine in the fresh air, which is good for their wellbeing and general health and gives them more mental space away from their classroom environments. In turn, this can help them to concentrate better in their lessons and even possibly achieve better grades or satisfaction at school. What’s more, dining shelters can help to boost students’ social skills and relationships, as this increased feeling of relaxation can promote a more welcoming atmosphere than in cramped facilities, and encourage them to have more fun with friends.
