The leadership team wanted to improve how students used space at busy times. The dining hall was full at lunch, and students had limited indoor areas when the weather was poor.
The school wanted a long-term solution that would increase space without building an extension. They asked for a covered area that was enclosed, warm, and ready to use all year round.

A&S Landscape worked closely with the school to understand how the space would be used. We recommended the Motiva Expanse™ enclosed dining canopy because it offers a quick and practical alternative to a traditional extension.
The final size measured 14,240 mm by 12,500 mm, creating a generous space that can support large groups of students at once. The structure included heating and lighting so it could stay in use throughout the year.
We also provided flooring to complete the internal finish and make the area feel like part of the main school building. The steelwork was finished in RAL 7016 to match the surrounding site.
The solid steel roof added strength and helped create a secure and quiet environment. This solution met the school’s requirement without major disruption to school life.
This project has given Glossopdale School a flexible space that supports both staff and students. Lunchtime is calmer because the school can spread groups across more areas. Students now have a warm place to sit and socialise, which supports their wellbeing.
The structure also gives the school options for the future, as it can be used for events, learning, or community activities. The Motiva Expanse™ delivered the extra space the school needed without the cost and delays of a traditional build.
A&S Landscape was pleased to help the school achieve a simple and effective result that will benefit the whole community for many years.
