What was the project brief?

Ludworth Primary School reached out to our team, looking for a solution to allow their students to play outdoors in all seasons. They needed a structure that would offer protection from rain and harsh UV rays. Their request was for a durable canopy suitable for play, and with an attractive design that would enhance the site.

What was our school canopy solution?

After reviewing the requirements, we recommended our Motiva Linear™ straight roof canopy – a popular choice for schools due to its dependable weather protection and bespoke fit. The finished structure measured 6400mm X 2300mm, making it well suited to the school’s specific space.

The posts were finished in a Moss Green Duracoat™ – a robust and aesthetically pleasing choice that blends nicely with the natural surroundings. This was then paired with an Opal polycarbonate roof, providing UV protection while allowing diffused light to pass through. This combination ensures a bright, inviting space that pupils can enjoy every day.

Why Outdoor Play Spaces Matter in Primary Education

School play spaces are far more than a place for children to let off steam during break times. They play a key role in enhancing primary education, supporting pupils’ physical, emotional, and social development in ways that classroom-based learning alone can’t.

Outdoor play areas allow children to explore, exercise, as well as be imaginative and creative. In addition to this, these spaces foster collaboration and social interaction. In unstructured play, children learn to negotiate, resolve conflict, and build friendships, of which are all key life skills to carry forwards!

Our canopy installations support schools to safely accommodate outdoor play all year round, if you are looking for guidance on how to design an outdoor play space, get in touch with us today.
