Cantilever Canopy at St. Peter & St. Paul’s RC Primary School

We had a wonderful review for this Cantilever shelter in Newport, Shropshire. We worked closely with St Peter & St Paul’s RC Primary School to add this outdoor shelter design to their existing building.

Project Specification

Using a Motiva Cantilever at 20000mm x 3000mm in a stylish, subtle Emerald (BS16E53) meant the new space blended beautifully with the current design and has given a flexible space that both protects parents from the elements when waiting to collect their children and means that outdoor learning is always possible.

Why is playing outdoors so important for the social and physical development of children and how can we allow them to spend more outside?

Encouraging more outdoor play is not just about the physical aspect of their health though. Active play during the school day are also helping children’s mental health. It shows them how to share their views and emotions and listen to those of others. The practice of expressing themselves, taking risks and sharing are all vital stepping stones on the path to reaching adulthood with the ability to discuss, debate and empathise.

Cantilever visual we created for St Peter & St Paul’s Primary School

That’s the thing with flexible outdoor shelters like this, they have numerous uses and give you additional teaching and play space.

“We are delighted with our canopy! It has made such a difference to our classroom. Parents are sheltered from the rain in the mornings, wet breaks are a thing of the past and outdoor learning is always a possibility. The shelter is wide enough to cover a large area for children to play comfortably without blocking the light from the classroom. It blends attractively with our building’s design. Every attention has been paid to details and finish – I’m not sure how we managed without it!”
