Cantilever Canopy at St. Peter & St. Paul’s RC Primary School
Bridlewood Primary School wanted to create a covered play area for their nursery children. A&S Landscape proposed a straight roof canopy as a cost-effective solution.
Moss Green - RAL NO. 6005
A Motiva Linear canopy was installed outside the nursery classrooms, on a timber decking area. The school chose a moss green steelwork finish which works perfectly with the surroundings. The clear polycarbonate roof allows sunshine through while offering essential protection from UV rays.
There is plenty of space under the 15000mm X 6000mm canopy for the children to play freely. There is also room for the school to store outdoor toys and play equipment, saving valuable space inside the buildings. Whether it is rainy or sunny, the children can enjoy some fresh air while they play outside.
The canopy could also be used during lessons if the teachers wish to use an alternative learning environment. This will help to engage the children as they get the opportunity to learn outside of the four walls of a classroom. Parents can also wait for their children under the canopy at the end of the day, safely sheltered from the elements. Overall, the new shelter has been a very popular addition to the school.
Our wellbeing is damagingly impacted by not getting sufficient exercise, leading to increasing numbers of obesity in children and adolescents. Children are not playing outside as much as they did previously, restricting their exposure to sunlight and thus the creation of Vitamin D which helps to tackle infection and keeps skin healthy. Sunlight also helps to manage the creation of melatonin which regulates sleep. Smartphones emit harmful blue light, which can cause headaches and eye strain. Blue light in the evenings can even restrict the production of melatonin, which in turn can make going to sleep very hard for some children.
Learn how schools can help their children spend more time outside here.
A&S Landscape has worked with a range of schools to install canopies, shade sails and shelters. Bridlewood Primary School is just one of the many schools recognising the importance of providing an outdoor sheltered area. At Swindon Primary School, we also installed a straight roof shelter with post pads. For more inspiration please browse our recent projects and our gallery.
