Blenheim Park Academy in Norfolk wanted to make improvements to the key stage 1 and early years centre at the school. This included the external space, as the young pupils loved to play and learn outside. But when the weather was poor, the children would have to spend the day inside the school. A&S Landscape was asked to propose a shelter solution for this section of the school.
After careful consideration of the school’s requirements, we proposed a multicoloured polycarbonate straight roof shelter. We used our Motiva Linear™ canopy design, adding the rainbow coloured sheets to the roof. The steelwork was finished in a subtle Ultramarine Blue RAL colour, which contrasts perfectly with the polycarbonate sheets.
The shelter measures a total of 6000mm X 3000mm, so plenty of covered space has been created without the whole playground being taken up. Because of our manufacturing process, we are able to make our canopies to suit your exact specifications. And if there isn’t a standard design which works for you, we can create a bespoke shelter to ensure all of your needs are met.
The colourful canopy has brightened up the playground and catches the eye of everyone who walks past. Most importantly, the young pupils of Blenheim Park Academy love playing under the shelter during their breaks. This has meant the children can get outside and play more regularly, which is great for their physical development.
The school can also use the canopy as an outdoor classroom as it provides protection from the rain and UV rays. This is a great option for holding an engaging and memorable lesson, away from the restrictive four walls of the classroom. Learning about nature and the environment will be so much easier when the children are surrounded by the outside world as they listen.
Located in Norfolk, Blenheim Park Academy is based in a lovely setting surrounded many green lush fields. The staff at the school are driven to provide a fantastic educational experience for every pupil, starting from their early years centre. It’s great that the young pupils will get to spend time outside during the school day throughout their years at Blenheim Park Academy.
Many studies have highlighted the benefits of spending time outside for young children. In fact, Ofsted agrees that spending time outdoors can positively impact pupils as it can improve their social, personal and emotional development. Although the majority of playtimes are already spent outdoors in the playground, few lessons are led outside of the classroom building. This is typically due to that the British weather can be unpredictable, so many teachers are unable to plan lessons ahead.
This where many primary schools and nurseries ask A&S Landscape to help them counteract this issue. Our range of fabric and polycarbonate canopies create a shaded and sheltered area outdoors, which can be used throughout the year. This space can then be used as an outdoor classroom, as benches, seats and even tables could be added under the shelter.
This unique and alternative learning space has helped many teachers engage their classes and create a memorable lesson. Primary school pupils in the UK rarely get the opportunity to regularly learn outside the four walls of the classroom, but this is starting to change thanks to our range versatile canopies and shelters for schools.
Our fabric sail shades made a stylish design statement at any school and can still be made with a waterproof PVC material to give all-year protection. The sail can be finished in a bright colour too, creating a welcoming shade which young children will love to play under. Many schools have chosen to install our polycarbonate canopies too, creating a sturdy and robust shade solution. The roofing and steelwork can also be finished in a range of RAL colours, matching the surrounding environment or the school’s logo.
When it comes to school canopies and shade sails, we are the experts. We can help you through every step of the progress, from your initial enquiry, to design of the shelter and then the installation. With over 40 years of experience, we’ve worked with countless schools and business to help them all get better use out of their external space. From installing spectator shelters at football grounds to covered walkways for garden centres, we have a product to suit every need.
