All-Weather Dining Space Created at Paulet High School

Paulet High School in Burton-upon-Trent were experiencing increased pressure on their indoor dining facilities, particularly during busy lunchtimes. With limited outdoor shelter and growing pupil numbers, the school needed Exceptional Covered Spaces™ that would expand their capacity while offering flexibility and comfort in all seasons. Our helpful team got to work on designing a high-quality, enclosed canopy system that could serve as a multipurpose space.

Challenges:

Overcrowded Dining Hall: Paulet High School teaches 925 pupils and have a growing yearly intake, in order to accommodate their pupils for lunch, they were in need of additional dining space.

Lack of Outdoor Shelter: Their lack of external covered spaces made their outdoor space unusable in poor weather.

Our Solution:

After working to understand the school’s requirements, our team at A&S Landscape designed and installed a large Motiva Expanse™ structure, providing a dedicated dining space with excellent protection from the elements. This was complemented by a Motiva Linear™ walkway canopy, linking the new dining space to the main school building to ensure seamless access in all weather conditions.

Key Features and Materials:

Structure: Enclosed canopy with curtain walling, including a functional window system to aid ventilation and natural light.
Roofing: Our Motiva Linear™ features our Poly-tuff™ roofing, in the shade Opal, enabling light to diffuse into the area whilst blocking harmful UV rays. Our Motiva Expanse™ features a robust steel roof in a mid-grey shade to suit the canopy.

Results:

Significantly increased dining capacity, reducing indoor congestion.
Versatile outdoor space: suitable for dining, teaching, and hosting school events.

By installing the new enclosed canopy and linking walkway, Paulet High School has created a modern, multi-use space that supports pupil wellbeing and enhances the school environment.
