Wooden Spoon Grant
Wooden Spoon is a children’s charity linked to rugby that funds projects helping disadvantaged and disabled young people. It supports work that improves daily life and future chances through care, play, and learning. It works across the UK and Ireland and has supported over two million young people since 1983.
Eligible Organisations
The following criteria must be complied with:
- The organisation must be connected with the sport of rugby
- Be of a charitable nature
- Work with and support young people or children in some way
Applications are also open to schools, colleges, clubs, statutory bodies, and community groups, even if they are not rugby clubs.
Suitable Projects
Suitable projects may fall into one of the following categories:
- Health and wellbeing
- Sensory rooms and gardens
- Specialist equipment and facilities
- Playgrounds and outdoor activities
- Education projects
Application Process
Applicants should read the criteria before downloading the form from the website. An Expression of Wish form is submitted first, and the project team usually replies within six weeks.
Important Dates
There are no fixed deadlines for applications. Around 70 projects are funded each year across the UK and Ireland.
Funding Range
Grants can cover up to 100% of costs, the average award is around £20,000, and projects should last at least five years.
