Garfield Weston Foundation Grant

The Garfield Weston Foundation supports charities across the UK with few limits on theme or place. It gives around £100 million each year and prefers charities delivering direct help to people in need. It has strong interest in welfare, youth, and community work, especially in areas facing economic hardship.

Eligible Organisations

The Foundation supports UK registered charities and those with exempt or excepted status. It also funds CIOs, and welcomes schools and universities, but does not fund individuals, CICs, councils, or social enterprises.

Suitable Projects

Funding can support projects, core running costs, or capital work like buildings or equipment. Projects should have clear outcomes and timelines, and funding usually covers 10–20% of total costs. One-off events, work outside the UK, and completed projects are not funded.

Application Process

Charities can apply online or by post using the Foundation’s forms. Applicants must complete an online eligibility quiz first, and decisions usually take up to four months. Grants under £100,000 are rolling, while larger requests follow a Major Grant process.

Important Dates

There are no fixed deadlines, and applications are accepted all year. Major Grants are considered at up to eight Trustee meetings each year.

Funding Range

Grants usually range from £1,000 to £100,000. Larger grants of several million pounds are possible for major charities, while local community capital projects rarely exceed £30,000.
